WIND GAP, Pa. Evacuation orders for about 5,000 people in northeastern Pennsylvania remain in effect even as authorities say the leak of a hazardous chemical has been contained.
Authorities say a tanker truck carrying more than 16 tons of hydrofluoric acid overturned early Saturday near Wind Gap, about 60 miles north of Philadelphia.

I didn’t know they HAD that many folks in Wind Gap. When you drive by it looks pretty unpopulated!
HF is nasty stuff.
HF. VERY nasty, soaks through the skin and dissolves the bones. Worse, it scavenges calcium from the nerves so you don’t even feel a burn until it’s far too late.
How near Abington is this? I have close relatives there.
Yeek. Definitely nasty stuff. Pray for the Hazmat workers.
I have no idea
Abington it about 2 hours south of there, don’t worry.
Thanks! :)
I hope everyone is OK up there.
Well, I’m closer to Abington, so I don’t have to worry, either. : )
HF is scary. Someone I new worked with HF for a short time. He had to be treated once for a HF exposure. I believe they injected large quantities of a neutralizer into the affected area. He was a tuff guy, a logger in the past. He refused to work with the stuff after that.
Murtha’s septic tank?
LOL! Even though Murtha is clear on the other side of the state, your comment is still funny.
Shelter is at Pen Argyl High School.
Lots of fire & EMS from all over, & lots of volunteers (America at its best).
Saw state rep Dalley there (Republican).
As of now, they haven’t righted the truck yet, so it may be a while.
Thanks for your info
That’s horrible stuff. I used to have to work with it occasionally in laboratories and always wore full hazmat gear. You can get some on your skin, hardly feel it, and wake up in the morning and find the bones under the skin dissolved away.
How near Abington is this?
Not very. I have relatives up that way, as well.
Abington high used to have a good football team.
I’m in Monroe County about a half hour from Wind Gap. Story and pics should be in the Pocono Record tomorrow, Poconorecord.com
