KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Famed Appalachian moonshiner Marvin Popcorn Sutton, whose incorrigible bootlegging ways were as out of step with modern times as his hillbilly beard and overalls, took his own life rather than go to prison for making white lightning, his widow says.
He couldnt go to prison. His mind would just not accept it.
So I credit the federal government for my husband being dead, I really do, Pam Sutton told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday from the couples home in the Parrottsville community, about 50 miles east of Knoxville.

"Live Free or Die"
“Once again, the government focuses resources where none are needed, ignores the millions of Mexican criminals roaming the streets and killing without consequence, and a cool old guy is dead because some lame-a$$ law dawgs didn’t want to take on anyone who would shoot back.”
Same with marijuana, or the WASD.
Popcorn was the finest man alive, willing to stand by his principles. They MADE him into a so-called criminal, when all he was trying to do was help the downtrodden. He was a patriot in every sense of the word, and how dare you cast dispersions on this wonderful man.
Damn, wore his Sunday-go-to-meeting cloths and still got five years. Tough Judge.
“This would be the single, solitary position the Obama Regime holds that I could agree with: Decriminalize. I don’t believe they’ll do it though. The need all the criminal BS on the books they can get. We must all be kept in a perpetual state of suspended arrest.”
Unfortunately, the hard-on-crime-no-matter-what types make it impossible politically to do what makes good sense. We actually have a bunch of those folks here on FR.
“I am all in favor of being hard on crime, as long as “crime” is correctly defined as an activity which results in an unwilling victim.”
Yep, and lots of our laws don’t do that.
“Of course, we’d also cut the lawyer employment numbers by at least 50%. And with the presiding king being High Priest of the Lawyers, that ain’t gonna happen”
Unfortunately, a HUGE percentage of our lawyers are involved in something other than defending criminals. The crime industry is hugely dependent on jails, prisons, etc.
Alexander Hamilton, the grandaddy of big government, proposed 9% tax for the little guys and 6% tax for the big guys. Washington, being one of the big guys, supported the idea. Thus the culture of Washington today. Except a lot of the Washington insiders don’t pay the taxes that all we little guys have to pay.
