Opinion: Buyers Remorse, Christian Obama Supporter Deeply Concerned
Catholic Online ^ | 3/17/09 | Deacon Keith Fournier

Many Evangelical Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox Christians did support then candidate Obama. Some observers say that the support from the Christian community secured his election to the Presidency. I believed that Christians who bought the “abortion reduction” claims would be sorry. I feared those on the “religious left” were making the same mistake that many on the “religious right” made in years past. They were being wooed by one Party and would be used by that same Party. The outspoken support of “Catholics United” and “Catholics in Alliance” for Obama nominees such as Kathleen Sebelius is inexplicable to me. They have now walked down the same road they once criticized and simply become captive to the other major Political Party.

However, something intriguing seems to be happening. It started as a murmur and now seems to have evolved into a real case of “Buyer’s Remorse” among some of the President’s Christians supporters. On Monday, March 16, 2009, one of them, David Gushee, a Professor of Christian Ethics at Mercer University and the President of ‘Evangelicals for Human Rights’ wrote an opinion piece entitled “Mr. President, we need more than lip service” for USA Today. He began this candid, well written and sad piece with these words: “Centrist evangelicals like me embraced Barack Obama’s campaign pledge to help bridge the gaps of the culture wars. Instead, the president’s short record on abortion-related issues is familiar— and disappointing — rather than revolutionary.”

Possibly there's some of the more liberal denominations where murdering an unborn child, the most innocent and defenseless amongst us, is hunky-dory.

Yeah, that could be, They worship All Hallows Eve or else were ancient Mayan or something. Makes me feel all better. LOL

This is just more evidence that many who call themselves Christian do so because of three reasons.

1. They believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah
2. They read the Bible
3. They attend church

I find that Satan can also qualify under this definition. Many who call themselves followers of Christ have never asked for forgiveness and never forgiven. They as much a Christian because they attend church as they are a car when standing in their garage.

These are the same people who, in 1939 supported another socialist and ended up in train cars.

Sorry, I don’t buy for one minute that David Gushee was “fooled”. He is a PROFESSOR of Christian Ethics. If he couldn’t see what was on Obama’s agenda regarding the sanctity of life, he was being willfully ignorant. And such a man has no business masquerading as a professor.

Obama is a huge national DARWIN AWARD for America.

It’s ironic that he came to office at least partially on the votes of Christians.

It’s how Hitler got his religion tax going, promissing gov. money to protect the church, and then forcing them to shut up on various issues and texts, violating church and state enforcement.

All the charities supported by the government have invariably made these turns. The YWCA is now a defacto subsidiary of NOW and antichristian abortion systems and ensalvement of children for gov. exploitation sake.

I have no respect for these idiots with buyers remorse. You caused it. Don’t look to anyone else to pat you on the back for your damn foolishness.

These so called religious voters that supported Obama have blood on their hands.
____________
I agree, I have none either. They voted for a fraud, they didn’t do their homework, now they may have destroyed our Republic. I hate them.

I resent the author even mentioning Orthodox Christians (1 million in the US vs 100 million Protestants and 50 million Roman Catholics) just to make it seem like "everybody does it". I am Russian Orthodox and do not know a single Orthodox Christian in our small parish who says they voted for Obama. If there were a few life-long Democrats who voted "Democrat", that has nothing to do with working a devils' bargain with Obama.

We knew (in our faith which has been pro-life for 2,000 years) that Obama has been militantly pro-abortion. If some Evangelicals (by the tens of millions) were willingly fooled, that is their concern but don't bring us into it.

Because he is a “good steward” of the earth.

Didn’t you know that is the most important qualification for president.

Amen to that!

So many on the left and so many moderates were so deeply invested in “anyone but Bush,” that I believe the left could have literally ran a donkey and won...it had nothing to do with the candidate we had on the right — we could have had ole’ “JC” himself and the right still would have lost.

The media is completely complicit and did its job and defeated Bush and the right...the irony in all that is, newspapers are folding at a fairly steady rate and the publishers are too stupid to figure out that journalism is why they existed and not left wing ideology...they in essence put themselves out of business — “ha, ha.”

The left will someday pray for another President with the strength and courage of “W.”

But usually that only comes with the US getting a big ole’ swift kick to the proverbial nads to wake everyone back up out of their trance.

Then, it will be too late to regret the decision of voting for “the one” who is all fluff and no substance...hey, they got what they paid for — “zero.”

How the hell could any THINKING Christian support this guy? HOW?

I mean, on the issues, he is to the left of ANYONE EVER IN THE OFFICE.

On economic issues, he makes FDR look like freakin’ Ayn Rand. On social issues, he makes Bill Clinton look like Ronald Reagan. On ethics, he makes Dick Nixon look like George Washington.

I don’t hate them, i just have the utmost comtempt for their utter stupidity.

Many of these folks are lifelong democrats who show up at church who have been told, and believe that the democrats care about the poor and downtrodden.

They still think it is the old days and have failed to pay attention to how the leftists have taken over the Democrat Party. They are ignorant and clueless and the democrats count on them for their foolishness. They are also responsible for destroying our country.

There is a supposed very intelligent prof at my old Christian college who supported bama...I got into it on his blog a little...he is supposed to be this brilliant author and lecturer..known all over our denomination.

He had an answer for everything I posed to him...how could a born again Christian vote for this guy?

I came away realizing that many Christians who claim Christ and yet voted for this man...don’t know what it means to be a Christian..they think they are...but sadly..if they could be fooled and manipulated so completely...they clearly are not. Not to mention..they are complete morons.

All of them dumbells. I guess they got swept up in the Obama thing and had to go along with the euphoria in their neighborhood or social circles. Nice job, idiots. Next time, try paying attention with some independent thinking.

We tried to warn them, but noooo. Nobody wanted to know nothin.’ All we hard was Bush is a disaster, we need a “change,” Obama brings us hope and all the other bull. No one wanted to be confused by the facts, and none of them would believe the reality.

Pardon my rant.

Remember fellow Christians, constructive criticism is just fine. But don’t alienate less knowledgeable or less perceptive members of the flock just as they are coming to their senses.

As I’m sure most bible students know, the apostle Paul spent a good deal of time trying to get similarly ignorant Christians to graduate from the “milk” of God’s word to the “meat” of it.

This is analogous to modern Christians who might, at some point in their spiritual development, wrongfully believe that God’s will is served simply by attending church and supporting candidates that appear generally compassionate.

Ignorance is a condition. Continued willful ignorance is a sin.
