Time For Steele To Go As RNC Chair
Townhall.com ^ | 3/16/2009 | Star Parker

From what I see, the Republican National Committee representatives who picked Michael Steele as their new chairman made a mistake. I think Steele ought to step aside.

It pains me to say it. But it pains me more to watch the opposition party, the Republican Party, spin aimlessly and leaderless, while the Obama administration shreds to pieces, with ruthless focus and discipline, everything that this country stands for.

Yes, of course, the defining moment for me is the recent GQ magazine interview in which Steele sounds more like a Democrat than a Republican. Does a woman have a right to choose abortion? "Yeah. Absolutely." Is homosexual behavior something an individual can choose? "It's like saying, 'Tomorrow morning I'm gonna stop being black.'"

Should we amend the constitution to define marriage? "I don't like mucking around with the Constitution." I guess Mr. Steele does like mucking around with his own party's platform, which supports such an amendment. (snip)

The Republican Party needs a chairman who wants to fight this fight. It seems pretty clear that Michael Steele is not that man.

It's too late now. We're “stuck” with Steele.

No we're not stuck with him. Most Freepers wanted someone else. As I recall he was elected on the sixth round of balloting, so he was far from a unanimous choice.

I don't even accept the notion that we're "Stuck" with Obama....if we can get him impeached on proper grounds, I'd say we should do it. The problem is that he has a Democrat Congress who won't do it. He's already broken his oath to "Support and Defend the Constitution of the United States". None of the programs he just rammed through satisfy the requirements of the Tenth Amendment of that Constitution he swore to support and defend.

Well, if you didn’t get a vote, then you don’t get a say.

It tells me that we're more astute than most people when it comes to political matters.

Most Freepers also wanted someone other than John McCain, but he used his "Divide and Conquer" technique very well.

It should tell you that FReepers and, indeed, conservatives don't have very much political clout, right now.

Let's start winning more elections, then we won't have to whine and bitch, after the fact, all the damn time.

Steele is but a bit player who has not been on the job a month as of yet.
All the more reason to show him the door now before the damage he is doing becomes irreparable. He's a complete train wreck and the sooner we get past it and move on, the better. Waiting around while he continues to crash and burn shows that conservative Republicans have no values at all. As long as he's the figurehead/spokesman, the RNC is dead. Your argument is a straw man - who cares what the Rats think or say? It's what Steele is saying that makes Republicans look like buffoons as long as we tolerate it.

Of course.

We will see that replayed for years, “The RNC fired Steele before he ever had a chance” or “The RNC in shambles, Steele fired one month into the job”.

Why not project competence? Or confidence? Are we that obtuse?

In less than a month he’s shown himself to be pro abortion, pro gay and anti Rush Limbaugh. When confronted over his Limbaugh comments he caved and tried to spin it away as a poor choice of words, but only after he realized he’d stepped in it with the base. He talks endlessly about a hip-hop PR campaign to expand the party. He’s in La-La land Padre. We cannot defeat our enemies by becoming them.
