Maxine Waters under scrutiny for bank ties
LA Times ^ | 3/13/2009 | Richard Simon and E. Scott Reckard

Rep. Maxine Waters, one of Los Angeles' most enduring liberal politicians, has come under scrutiny because of bailout funds that went to a bank in which her husband had owned stock and served on the board.

Waters was a senior member of the congressional committee dealing with the financial crisis when OneUnited Bank -- one of the nation's largest minority-owned institutions -- received $12 million in bailout funds.

Her husband, Sidney Williams, served on the bank board until early last year and held at least $500,000 in investments in the bank in 2007, the most recent year for which public financial disclosure statements are available.

A month before Congress enacted the bailout program, Waters helped set up a meeting between the chief executive of the bank, representatives of other financial institutions and Treasury officials.

"When a member of the financial services committee calls, you pay special attention," said Jeb Mason, who was a high-ranking Treasury official last fall.

Maxine is one of the worst in Congress and I certainly hope she gets her just dues some day soon, but I doubt it with all of the corruption there in D.C. now.

The Democrats just passed a trillion dollar stimulus bill, and we’re supposed to be surprised about a House member steering money to a bank. What is the stimulus bill, anyway, except a gift to Democrat constituents?

Far-leftist Maxine is no new crook:

Waters was included by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (”CREW”) among its 2005 list of the thirteen “Most Corrupt Members of Congress” list[18] and on the 2006 list[19] for “her exercise of this power to financially benefit her daughter, husband and son.”

After the Los Angeles Times published allegations of nepotism against Waters, Waters filed a request with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to deny a renewal of the broadcast license for KTLA-TV, a station owned by the newspaper. Claiming that “The Los Angeles Times has had an inordinate effect on public opinion and has used it to harm the local community in specific instances,” Waters requested that the FCC force the paper to either sell its station or risk losing that station's broadcast rights. Such challenges, according to Broadcasting & Cable Magazine, “raise the specter of costly legal battles to defend station holdings. ... At a minimum, defending against one would cost tens of thousands of dollars in lawyers’ fees and probably delay license renewal about three months.” Waters’ petition was ultimately unsuccessful.

During the Los Angeles riots of 1992, Waters appeared on television as a commentator. In defense of the people that looted stores and damaged property, Waters said “If you call it a riot it sounds like it was just a bunch of crazy people who went out and did bad things for no reason. I maintain it was somewhat understandable, if not acceptable. So I call it a rebellion.”

She was also the one who blamed the CIA for purposefully getting young Black men on crack to destroy the “Black Race” (sic.)

If Charlie Wrangle and John Conyers and William Jefferson could skate out of even more serious charges then is there anyone who really believes that anything is going to happen to Maxine Waters?

Maybe she’ll take a swing at a capitol police officer next and get tossed like McKinney.

Dear Maxine,

I've heard you may be in a bit of hot water now, but rest assured you have an out that simply cannot be ignored. Please take this token of self-expression and feel free to use it when you see fit. It's guaranteed to work.

As a martial and combat artist of over 25 years, I hate it when politicians try to look tough by making those ‘wimp’ fists.

All these people skate, but Burris is being treated very different for reason I don't entirely understand. Are they afraid his problems will go higher up?

Yes indeed! The same woman who a few months ago was screaming at the oil company execs and threatening to "socialize" them (she couldn't think of the word "nationalize").

This so fits the pattern of the modern socialist. At their core, they are nothing but looters. In fact, worse, in they wrap themselves in a hypocritical pretense of being a "do gooder".

The funny part is that she’s probably the elite cream of the crop in the district she represents.
