HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) A conservative activist who ran for Pennsylvania governor three times in the 1990s says she will challenge Arlen Specter for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate next year.
Peg Luksik, of Johnstown, said Tuesday she is not deterred by the prospective candidacy of former congressman Pat Toomey. Toomey, a fellow conservative who narrowly lost to Specter in the 2004 primary, says he is considering running in 2010.
Luksik says Toomey told her last month that he wouldn't challenge Specter. She says it's up to Toomey to decide whether he wants to risk dividing the GOP's conservative wing and allowing Specter to win a sixth term.

“No. Dubya and Barbour lost only once. Shes lost three times.”
That’s no to say that I wouldn’t have supported Luksik if she were the sole conservative running against Specter, or if she ran against Murtha, but I’d certainly prefer Pat Toomey to run against Specter (especially given the way he was robbed of the nomination in 2004) and then against the Democrat nominee in what promise to be two very expensive, high-profile and extremely competitive races.
Well, that's true, but he's not hurting for funding AND he's got the unwavering support of the Pennsylvania Rockefeller Republican machine.
Unfortunately, in this financial climate I don't think there's a conservative Republican who can beat him, except maybe Lynn Swann, and it's probably only my wishful thinking that Swannie'll run.
Amen, brother. The whole debacle changed my world view. It made me see our president as a party hack, and Santorum, well, he just broke my heart.
Pat Toomey was raised Catholic, and apparently he’s still Catholic:

And Michael Barone’s 2004 Almanac of American Politics (the last Almanac in which Toomey was listed as a member of Congress) also identifies him as a Catholic: http://www.nationaljournal.com/pubs/almanac/2004/people/pa/rep_pa15.htm
Great!
yep.
More ridiculous things have been true much less said.
Nothing McCain does or says would surprise me, so no, it is not close. If it wasn't for Palin, I would have been a third party voter - just like millions of other conservatives.
Syncro did a mea culpa due to a misunderstanding - we are fine.
I stand by my original statement - anyone stating that Toomey was actually working to protect Specter would, in fact be making the most asinine pronouncement I have ever seen on FR.
She's a former schoolteacher, best known for her anti-abortion activities. She received 13% of the vote in the 1994 race for governor, running as Constitutional Party candidate.
Agreed.
I also agree that Mr. Toomey should go for Senate, not Governor.
Peg Luksik should drop her candidacy. She is certainly not helping the Constitutionalist cause by running.
Yes, with Toomey, the seat will be replaced by a Dem, but not as easily.
Is this equally inane?
Gleason state party chair in PA, DIS invited Wm Russell to a major Palin rally in Western PA right before the event.
Why? because he has business dealings with Murtha.
Nah, never happened. /s
She got 46% in the 90 primary as a conservative.
She’s got a lot more going for her than being anti abortion.
Lets dis a great conservative so we can get a Rendell look alike in office again.
In general, the PA GOP needs an enema. Toomey sending Arlen to either the 'Rats or the retirement home would be a good start.
