FULLERTON, Calif. (CNS) -- An estimated 8,000 people gathered in the parking lot at the Slidebar Cafe Saturday to protest a May 19 ballot measure that would increase the state's "rainy day fund" and extend tax increases used to help close California's $40 billion deficit for one to two years, according to the Orange County Register.
The three-hour rally was the first in a series to be hosted by KFI-AM (640) talk show personalities John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou to defeat Proposition 1A , Kobylt said. The pair, known on the air as John and Ken, broadcast live during the rally.
"We want all the political idiots in Sacramento and the weasels in the media to know that this impacts people," Kobylt told City News Service. "If you take $1,000 to $1,500 from families, it puts them in a bad place financially."
The state's narrowly approved budget plan includes temporary increases in the vehicle license, income and sales taxes, among others. The sales tax in Los Angeles County will rise from 8.25 to 9.75 percent as of April 1.
One protester, Kimberly Smith, 29, of Tustin wore a button with the amount she will pay in additional taxes: $1,645, the Register said.
Entertainer Vince Bartolome of Costa Mesa told the paper the tax increases take money from him personally and cuts into his profit as fewer people can afford to attend his shows.
"It sucks for us all," Bartolome told the Register. Running blog accounts and photos from the rally were posted at freerepublic.com, a blog for "grassroots conservatives."

“Ahnold, you have kizzed liberahl ahz to long”
We are a “blog”?
They still do not get New Media.
who cares about ABC?
it should be ABC glad that their mentioned here on FR :)
It helps to get the word out via the MSM even if it is local and they are a dying Giant.
I guess these guys are doing a service. However, I have one misgiving they are only after Republicans.
Opponents of measures on the May 19 ballot say some of the titles state officials put on the budget-related measures are misleading, if not actually false, and a Sacramento judge agrees with them.
“Weasels in the Media”
Great quote !
estimates came out in the Media of twice that many attendees.

Robin Smith: Republicans Unswayed By Democrats’ Mockery
by Robin Smith, Tennessee Republican Party Chairman
posted March 8, 2009
Last week, House Democrat Leader Gary Odom mocked Tennessee citizens who exercised their right to speak as they gathered on the War Memorial Plaza to oppose the bloated spending by Democrats in Washington, asking, rhetorically, why Republicans participated in the protest.

ABC's not quite right. They should have written:
The sales tax in Los Angeles County will rise from 8.25 to 9.25 percent as of April 1.
It will then rise further to 9.75 percent as of July 1, 2009.
Just wait a few months when they discover the California economy is sinking like the Titanic and their projected revenues don't materialize. They'll be back for more.
Some cities in LA county will match that rate, and one city in LA county -- South Gate -- will have 10.75% starting this summer. (It will be 10.25% for 3 months beginning April 1, 2009, before the additional 0.5% adds in July.)
“who cares about ABC?

FR has probably had more mention than any other national TV media.
I was on ABC national news when I jerked all my funds out of Morgan Stanly when they paid Clinton $250k for speaking to them.
