Unbelievable, isn't it?
Commentary ^ | March 8, 2009 | Jennifer Rubin

The Washington Post editors notice that the economy is a mess and getting worse. And they sound miffed:

And yet for the past several days, Washington has been consumed by the point-scoring possibilities of a flap over commentator Rush Limbaugh. It is almost unbelievable that grown men and women in government, of either party, are spending time and energy on this. The whole world is watching, counting on Washington for leadership. The president and lawmakers of both parties must provide it.

Let’s put aside the naked hypocrisy for a moment and ignore the number of stories the Post ran on this subject, (and on page one no less). The editors use a passive voice — “Washington has been consumed” — which deserves further scrutiny. Wasn’t it Obama’s political hit men who cooked up the scheme to Limbaugh-ize the GOP? Wasn’t it Gibbs and Rahm Emanuel who egged on reporters? It is not the Republicans who are claiming Limbaugh should be crowned head of the party. To the contrary the GOP’s elected leaders have been imploring the media to get back to the economy, the grotesque omnibus spending bill, and, frankly, the president’s cluelessness about the market crash.

So if they had wanted to be accurate, the editors should have written:

And yet for the past several days, the Obama administration has been consumed by the point-scoring possibilities of a flap over commentator Rush Limbaugh. It is almost unbelievable that grown men and women in government, are spending time and energy on this. The whole world is watching, counting on Washington for leadership. The president and lawmakers of both parties must provide it.

That’s plainly what is going on.

One party controls the House, the Senate and the Presidency.

The liberals are in control, so why Rush or others?

Control, Control is what it is about to the point of a mental disease?

With liberals, power and control is all that has ever mattered.

The Dem's primary purpose is to destroy, not lead and so that long pregnant pause you are sensing is them looking for another scapegoat or escape from responsibly.

The whole world is watching, counting on Washington for leadership.

That can be sooooo disappointing.

It has been bad before (esp. under the Philanderer in Chief), but the "leadership" of this administration/congress combination looks really adolescent, at best.

Every attempt to fix the economy gets revealed as more bellying up to the trough for the "leaders".

Every time big "O" opens his mouth, it's to whine about the "inherited crisis" and the stock market takes another dive.

Big O can't even speak without teleprompters (guess that's easier to explain than having an arm up his butt).

It's as if a group of teens were given the ATM card; the keys to the house, car, and liquor cabinet; and told that mommy and daddy will be out of town from Friday until Tuesday.

Intil conservatives fill the power vaccuum in the party with credible leadership, Rush will be the default whipping boy. We need the kind of leadership that Newt has provided in the past but are too busy fighting among ourselves to get anything in place in time for 2010 or 2012. We are doomed!

Q. At long last, sir, have you no sense of shame?

Dear Leader: HOPE, yes we can! CHANGE, yes we can!
But shame? Nope.

These are NOT your father's democrats; today's democrat party is the Communist Party in desquise.

Just look up the Communist Manifesto and see if it isn't in goose step with the democrat party.

This flap with Rush is smokescreen. Rush was given about 90% of the credit for the last Republican takeover with Newt as Speaker. Rush's comments and opinons are nothing new to those of us in the know; it's the newcomer CommieBama and his scallywag cabinet who are being stung by the truth and want Rush stopped.

I think they've discovered that it's easier said than done, so now they're trying the old "discredit" trick, and trying to envelop all conservatives in that schtick.

There's only one problem, Mr. CommieBamaMan...we all know Rush a lot better than we know you. We even know that Rush is a natural born citizen, we know all about him. We don't know anything about CommieBamaMan that he didn't want us to know in his book of premptive answers to questions he doesn't want to be asked.

We all know that Rush believes in, and promotes the Constitution, American moral values, and free enterprise. We know none of that about CommieBamaMan - the one who refuses to salute the flag, say the pledge or wear a flag-pin on his lapel (unless it's politically expendient).

We also know Rush a lot better than Charlie Gibson, Katie Couric and the rest of the MSM Hair Spray Brigade.

So lefties, you're whistling past the graveyard if you think all this crap you're doing and saying is gaining you any inroads with conservatives. Rush is a known quantity, but you CommieBamaMan are "X" - an unknown and untested quantity with dubious relationships, shady connections, and a do-nothing political record.

Until conservatives fill the power vaccuum in the party with credible leadership . . . [we] are doomed!

Hard to find fault with that sentiment. Watched Huckabee last night, saw more direct leadership potential out of a 14-year-old boy than is being displayed by many party "leaders".

Right now it seems there's a little bit of squabble, but more disorientation -- who has the recognition, the charisma, the ability to communicate the message.

In part, I think that until a certain pain threshold is reached, people will give O a lot of slack to screw them without holding him or his ilk accountable. But that threshold has to be crossed, to establish clearly that the current administration's strategies are not the answer to the problem.

It’s mind boggling that the political intelligentsia spends this much time on Rush with all else that requires attention. It IS diversionary.

I don’t get what they are trying to accomplish - keep so called moderate voters on their side and keep them hating Republicans?

Are they that worried about the 2010 elections already?

The sad thing is that Steele and others took the bait and fell into the trap. They should have been more astute.

So, this morning I've been going through the mental exercise of how a new, truly conservative, political party - the "TEA PARTY" might be formed, and what type of platform it might be built on. For some reason this discussion seems pertinent.

This is what I have so far...

"VIRTUAL PARTY" STRATEGY:
Start as a "virtual party" that endorses those candidates from the existing
parties based on the degree of their agreement with the TEA PARTY platform.
Only run TEA PARTY candidates in those cases where a good chance of victory
is projected.

DECENTRALIZATION STRATEGY:
Appoint TEA PARTY executives in each state who represent the TEA PARTY
platform. This eliminates the possibility of the TEA PARTY being vulnerable
to the loss of any individual members.

GENERAL PLATFORM:
1. Greatly reduce all federal taxes
2. Eliminate all government waste
3. Strengthen the military
4. Impose higher standards within the education system
5. De-militarize federal law enforcement agencies
6. Ween the nation from welfare
7. Impose reasonable financial controls (eliminate "loan sharking" by banks).
8. Return to an economic system based on free competition (subject to
reasonable regulation).
9. Require a high school diploma and a non-criminal background to vote.
10. Require nation-of-original labeling on all food.
11. Eliminate frivolous law suits.
12. Standardize insurance packages and guarantee true competition between insurance
companies.
13. De-politicize the medical industry - let doctors be doctors.

ECONOMY-RELATED MEASURES
1. Define and initiate a plan for re-privatizing all banks that have been nationalized.

2. Allow all non-bank businesses to go bankrupt.

3. Commence immediate investigations into any and all possible cases of "economic
treason and malfeasance" being committed against the American people, with
harsh punishments for all found guilty.

Well, when we DO get someone who can lead, does a good job and is what we like (Palin and Jindal) the GOP eats their own. Or sits back and lets the DNC pound the crap out of them.

“liberals” aren’t liberal. They want total control of laws, colleges, schools, and the media.
