The Minnesota Supreme Court today decided that Democrat Al Franken has no right to an election certificate which would pave the way for Franken to immediately join the U.S. Senate before the end of Republican Norm Coleman's court case.
"We conclude that neither state nor federal law requires issuance of a certificate of election before the election contest is completed; we deny the petition," the Supreme Court wrote in a unanimous opinion released today.
Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, a Democrat and Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a Republican, have said that state law bars a Senate candidate from receiving an election certificate when there is a contested election.
The decision comes as Coleman and Franken are still wrangling in court over who got the most votes in the long-running race. Franken has a 225-vote lead.
I’m still kind of hoping that it will take 6 years to straighten this one out.
You repeated yourself.
You’re surprised? Remember, liberals cheat...complain and CHEAT!
You mean the Minnesota Supreme Court doesn’t want a tax-cheating joke as senator? Harry Reid does, as does the MINN SOS.
Then there’s Soros, who wants the US Senate to have a failed radiohead as the last US Senator to take his seat, making the entire US Senate a joke.
ha ha ha Al Franken
What does this mean? I know Franken is a fraud, everyone knows the election was openly stolen in broad daylight but what now? What now?
In light of ACORN's involvement in Barry's campaign, maybe stolen elections are something we should get used to.
It mean the case and therefore the election must be resolved first.
Wait, he has NO right to an election certificate; BUT he can be seated.
HAS EVERYBODY LOST THEIR MIND?
This is a double post.
Once Franken took the seat, there would have been no way to ever dislodge him so long as the Republicans remain the minority...
The articles are about the same subject, but the title, author and source are different.
I did a search on the title before I posted it. Nothing came up.
The three-judge panel has not ruled on the election challenge lawsuit brought by Coleman. The Canvassing Board ruled Franken the winner, but the court challenge is ongoing. This was a clear, and clearly-correct, 5-0 decision determining that no election certificate can issue until the court challenge is complete.
