Russia, China flex muscles in joint war games
Reuters: Aug 17, 2007

CHEBARKUL, Russia (Reuters) - Russia and China staged their biggest joint exercises on Friday but denied this show of military prowess could lead to the formation of a counterweight to NATO.

"Today's exercises are another step towards strengthening the relations between our countries, a step towards strengthening international peace and security, and first and foremost, the security of our peoples," Putin said.

Fighter jets swooped overhead, commandos jumped from helicopters on to rooftops and the boom of artillery shells shook the firing range in Russia's Ural mountains as two of the largest armies in the world were put through their paces.

The exercises take place against a backdrop of mounting rivalry between the West, and Russia and China for influence over Central Asia, a strategic region that has huge oil, gas and mineral resources.

Russia's growing assertiveness is also causing jitters in the West. Putin announced at the firing range that Russia was resuming Soviet-era sorties by its strategic bomber aircraft near NATO airspace.

Venezuela's Chavez welcomes Russian warships
Nov 25, 2008
LA GUAIRA, Venezuela – Russian warships arrived off Venezuela's coast Tuesday in a show of strength aimed at the United States as Moscow seeks to expand its influence in Latin America. The deployment is the first of its kind in the Caribbean since the Cold War and was timed to coincide with President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to Caracas — the first ever by a Russian president.

Putin must feel proud that Soviet KGB money funneled to the CPUSA for thirty years eventually led to the indoctrination and ascendancy of the Soetoro lad.

Commencement Address at Boston College (Secretary Condoleezza Rice, Boston, Massachusetts, May 22, 2006. US Department of State)

Excerpts:

As a student of a Catholic high school, the Sisters of Loretta taught me, I am pleased to be at an institution of higher education with such strong and celebrated Catholic and Jesuit traditions . . . You see, I got my Master's Degree at Notre Dame. (Boos.) I acquired a passion for the fighting Irish . . . and my family has been college educated and Presbyterian ever since. (Laughter and applause.) . . . I wandered into a course on international politics taught by a Czech refugee who specialized in Soviet studies, a man who had a daughter by the name of Madeleine Albright. With that one class, I was hooked. I discovered that my passion was Russia and all things Russian.

I typed a whole book but decided to cut it because..
you know. As bad as it is we are still the US and they are still Russia and China. One is in a steeper decline from a much much lower starting point than us and the other will have a terrible time when we don’t buy their manufactured goods (crap) anymore. A little less than 4 years from now we use the much bigger crises to:
1. Deal with Iran if need be.
2. Deal with Venezuela if need be.
3. Deal with inflation if need be.
4. Open up our oil.
5. Stop importing Chinese crap if we haven’t already.
6. Stop importing Russian oil if we haven’t already.
7. Implement the fair tax so the poor learn a little voter responsibility.
8. Recognize Pakistan for what it is and support India.
9. Recognize coal for what it is.
This should be the new contract with America.

*Note to the Europeans, you had better build many nuclear plants ahead of time.
