Cantor Rejects Rush Limbaugh Rhetoric
ABC News ^ | 03/01/09

Posted on 03/01/2009 11:30:09 AM PST by cc2k

During our exclusive interview on "This Week," Republican Whip Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., rejected comments made by Rush Limbaugh at the CPAC conference.

<Snip> Limbaugh said Saturday to the conservative conference, "What is so strange about being honest and saying I want Barack Obama to fail if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundations?"

Cantor today rejected Limbaugh's rhetoric.

"So the Rush Limbaugh approach of hoping the president fails is not the Eric Cantor, House Republican approach?" I asked.

"Absolutely not," Cantor said. "And I don't -- I don't think anyone wants anything to fail right now. We have such challenges. What we need to do is we need to put forth solutions to the problems that real families are facing today."

“Doing nothing” e.g. letting the the banks fail WAS an option that is if we still value the free market. Over a hundred Republicans were willing to exercise this option. Now....because we did not choose that option, the likely result is bank nationalization or another massive bailout. The evidence is now obvious, that “doing something” was a tragic mistake. A “different type of plan” (at least of the type Gingrinch apparently preferred) would have probably been based on the same flawed bailout principle.

“Cantor has to stand for election and as such cannot be advocating failure.”

That argument fails. Cantor is in as safe a Republican District as Virginia offers; even in the Obama ‘08 election, Cantor got his lowest vote ever ... 63%. His clarifying Rush’s point would have helped his reelection, not hurt it.

This was an opportunity to clarify for dolts like Stephanopolous exactly what Rush meant. Cantor flubbed it, and I’m really disappointed.

Regardless if you are right or wrong, you are one major pompous ass.

Sorry if it seems that way, bubba, but the fact of the matter is that you people - the "we're better than everybody else cuz we's figgered it out that the Republicans is all RINOs and s we's not gonna vote fer 'em, and all you people what votes fer 'em is RINOs too and we's so much better than y'all" people, are the pompous asses. You are the ones who think way, way more highly of yourselves than you ought.

Is it possible for you to show respect for your fellow FReepers, even when you disagree with them?

Most of the time, yes. When it comes to the nose-picking jerks like yourself who would rather hand election after election after election after election to the left because you're too lazy or cowardly to do anything to unite and fight, then no, I honestly don't see any reason to respect you.

Did he actually SAY he wanted the party to move to the middle? We can be inclusive of those to whom the issues of the environment and homosexual rights are important. We just need to convince them of the correctness of the Republican positions. We won’t convince anyone, if we’re not talking to them or they’re not listening to us.

For a person who doesn’t care what I think, you sure post a lot of responses to my messages.

That's because I care about you so much.

Even if I don't care what you think.

Why should Rush have supported a big government Republican like Duncan Hunter? Hunter has the distinction of supporting the billionaire banker bailout, the prescription drugs boondogle, and No Child Left Behind. I could never understand the strange enthusiasm on FR for a man with a record like that.

Well, no, he didn't. He basically gave the same old "political speech" type response that Congresscritters always give in front of a camera.

>> Cantor didn’t say that. Watch the video. Troll post.

Troll post indeed.

How often has Biden rejected Obama’s rhetoric? Never, it’s just a different “perspective”.

I am a part of the base and yes I voted for McCain. That ridiculous situation is long past. The new leader of our party has every reason to demand conservative to the core. Placating to the left is over.

I totally agree. We just need to do our part to make sure the core is conservative.

Cantor is a politician, and "Fail" is one of those memes he can't be expected to embrace this soon into the admin.

I don't think this is worth getting upset about, particularly when the GOP is well aware of how their base feels.

Let O's ratings continue to slide. When they're down closer to 50%--easier for leadership to ramp up the rhetoric.

You’re right and wrong. Pubs need to learn to speak politically, but with cajones. He could easily have defended Rush and at the same time say he does not represent all of the party. We need to play as hard as the rats do.

We just need to do our part to make sure the core is conservative.

I am a citizen of Tennessee and I promote all of my co-workers to keep their concerns to all Reps and our Senators. There is a will in Washington to make 65' liberals look like 2010 conservative. They shall not get there.

We can be inclusive of those to whom the issues of the environment and homosexual rights are important.

1) What environmental issues exactly? Global warming? Global warming is a hoax. Why be inclusive to people who believe in an Al Gore Myth.

2) What are homosexual rights? I don't see the word homosexual in the bill of rights or the US Constitution? What's next pedophilia or polygamy rights? Where does it end?

Why should you have to change your political philosophy to accommodate people who are diametrically opposed to common sense and moral behavior?

Remember, Tolerance is the virtue of the man without convictions.

...the GOP is dead to conservatives. Do we get it yet?

IMHO you are spot-on correct. With Mr. Steele denouncing Rush, the chasm grows ever larger. Steele's renunciation of Rush proves no changes to the GOP are ahead except to champion the diversity mantra and veer ever leftward.
