Fluffy Toilet Paper Said to Be Worse for Environment Than Hummers
Friday , February 27, 2009
That super-soft toilet paper you're fond of using? It's an ecological disaster, environmentalists say.
Millions of trees are harvested throughout the Americas including rare old-growth forests in Canada to sustain the United States obsession with quilted, ultra-soft, multi-ply toilet paper, the New York Times reported.
Although toilet paper manufacturers could produce products from recycled materials at a similar cost, the newspaper reported, the fiber taken from standing trees are necessary to help give the tissue its fluffy feel.
No forest of any kind should be used to make toilet paper, said Dr. Allen Hershkowitz, a senior scientist and waste expert with the Natural Resource Defense Council told the Times.

Hear! Hear!
I’ll bet Queen Pelosi doesn’t use any recycled scratch for her delicate bum.
We’ll believe the Earthworshipers when we see a big basket of corn cobs sitting in Nancy Pelosi’s and Barbara Boxer’s bathrooms. That should be rough enough for the Toilet Paper Czar that I’m sure BO will be appointing soon.

Toilet paper???
I had the privelege of using some one-ply Scott tissue from the 50s, and it was miserable stuff. I think 320 grit would have been an improvement. No doubt, the schmucks who try to ban the 'good' stuff will have confiscated enough to fill warehouses--and use it.
Surely this is a problem worthy of a new Manhattan Project. lol
“good grief, where does this stop? “
It partially explains why liberals are so full of sh*t.
When fluffy toilet paper is outlawed, only outlaws will have fluffy toilet paper.
Exactly the same as corn except the growing cycle is longer.
The poor Dr. needs to get back on his meds.
My good old standby "Sandi-Wipe" is all I can afford anyhow.
My family could never get the corncobs to flush.
How about that $4,200,000,000,000 that Obama is printing? Isn’t all that paper and ink bad for the environment?
What does a good hummer have to do with the enviroment? Maybe the heavy breathing releases to much CO2.
How many millions of trees are used to generate newsprint for the absolutely useless New York Times?
TP's usefulness far exceeds that of the New York Times.
My plumber buddy refers to Charmin ("don't squeeze the Charmin") as 'The Plumber's Friend'.....it's overly absorbent and tends to clog up toitties and gain him some easy fix jobs.
“TP’s usefulness far exceeds that of the New York Times.”
The New York Times is great! Fish wrap, soaking up gun oil, wiping dog crap off your shoes...there are so many uses!
Just don’t read it.
You convinced me! We’re switching to baby wipes.
Don’t squeeze my Charmin...
Filing this one under "Tough Sh**".
I'll give up my Hummer, but not my fluffy toilet paper.
