The eyes of Obama are not upon me because Obama never, ever looks straight into the camera when he gives a speech. He looks to his left, he looks to his right, he looks to his left, he looks to his right, ...
It's as if his breathless fans don't even exist...
Yep. I think that’s a big part of it.
Good one.
One in front would probably be in the way of the camera angle.
She “pops” up like a female Jack-in-the-Box. I think she startled old Joe a couple of times when she first did it!
No disagreement from me just sayn. ;-)
Apparently the telepromtpters are to his left and right, not straight ahead.
They would place it just below the camera lens. That’s the way they do it on television sets. Think about news readers...
Right.
By admiring his profile, we dont see his ears. ;-)
Pogo-stick Pelosi and Mean Joe “nobody messes with Joe” Biden
Excuse me while I hurl.
(laugh) That’s a good point. He looks less like his cousin Alfred E. Newman if he doesn’t stare straight ahead...
ROFLMAO!
But in the last press event, where he was all whiny and bitchy, he also averted looking at the camera.
Quite correct. I noticed that, too, during that press conference. He just won't look at the camera. Perhaps your supposition that there's no one home has something to it...
Actors are often told to never look directly into the camera (and he is, after all, an actor). Just sayn ;-)

Maybe it has something to do with maintaining the suspension of disbelief.
No, its the ear thing. ;-)
I'm not a minority nor illegal alien.
I'm not a democrat, I'm not in need of a bailout so my vote cannot be bought.
I like to think for myself, collect facts without spin.
I'm active in my Christian Church.
I'm not gay or bi, I simply have a wife of nearly 20 years, two kids, and a dog.
I have a college education, in fact two engineering degrees and an MBA.
I believe in limited government, that more often than not government is the problem, not the solution.
I believe in letting people have freedoms to choose, but that they must live with the consequences and risks as well as rewards, not in a nanny-state guarantee of a no-pain, no sacrifice life.
I believe in living within my means and being grateful for what I have.
I believe socialism is inherently evil.
I believe in helping my fellow man, voluntarily, not under duress or coercion.
I believe the second amendment does guarantee (note, not grant) my personal right to keep and bear arms, to protect my life, and the lives of my family as well as my fellow man.
I believe peace comes through strength and mutual respect, not through weakness and faint praise.
In short, I am not Obama's kind of person, and I believe I do not exist in his eyes. I believe his focus is on the people he can manipulate, fool, and use.
Good points, all.
He has to have the camera right there in his face which wouldn't be practical in the room they use for this schpiel. Good for a TV studio or a 'fireside chat' though. The standard speech prompters leave an opening in the middle for the camera to catch the speaker's image from across the floor, as he moves his head from side to side like a lawn sprinkler, addressing the adoring multitudes.
When I see his mug on t.v. I put the mute on. I listened to him when he was campaigning just to give him a chance. Decided that I don’t rust him and still don’t. The mute comes in handy.
I don’t have any technical knowledge of how teleprompters are set up, but I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen speeches in large venues in which the speaker looked straight ahead towards the camera. I’ve never noticed this sort of complete absence of looking into the camera that Obama manifests...
