The Stunted Economic Stimulus (Obama just wasted $787 billion taxpayers money)

Judged by his own standards, President Obama's $787 billion economic stimulus program, which he signed into law last week, is deeply disappointing. For weeks, Obama has described the economy in grim terms. "This is not your ordinary, run-of-the-mill recession," he said at his Feb. 9 press conference. It's "the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression." Given these dire warnings, you'd expect the stimulus package to focus exclusively on reviving the economy. It doesn't, and for that, Obama bears much of the blame.

The case for a huge stimulus, which I support, is that it's insurance against the possibility of a devastating downward economic spiral. Spending and confidence are tumbling worldwide. In the fourth quarter of 2008, the U.S. economy contracted at a nearly 4 percent annual rate. In Japan, the economy fell at a nearly 13 percent rate; in Europe, the rate was about 6 percent. These are gruesome declines. If the economic outlook is as bleak as Obama says (and it may be), there's no reason to dilute the upfront power of the stimulus. But that's what Obama's done.

The ACORNs and the Enviroloonies got their cut. That’s all that matters to Bari.

I'm ashamed of my own city council and mayor. They were so giddy that they got 75,000,000 dollars for their "modern trolley car system." This city needs that like we need another hole in the head.

We already have taxi and a pretty efficient bus system. Once the few hundred workers are done with this task, we will have an albatross that suffers a net annual loss in perpetuity. A heavily-subsidized drag on the economy.

But don't tell that to our RINO mayor and Leftist city council. They can't think past the next election cycle, and we will have another 20% voter turnout of brain-deads who will reelect all these clowns.

Not that I'm cynical, or anything like that.

I just saw that he gave $900 million to rebuild Gaza. I don’t remember giving him permission to do that.

The city taxpayers will be subsidizing the operation and maintenance of that albatross in perpetuity. I'll bet the existing bus service runs at a loss already. Most of them do.

It's time for a torches and pitch forks meeting at the city council. You need to demand that they cease and desist from the trolley project. If they fail to listen, initiate a recall of the mayor. Make him pay attention.

You'll have to ask FlyVet. The "porkulus" contains funding for a high speed train from Disneyland to Las Vegas. Harry Reid jammed that into the bill.
