The guests at Sunday evening's black tie White House dinner for the nation's governors feasted on servings of Chesapeake crab agnolottis, wagyu beef, Nantucket scallops and huckleberry cobbler for dessert. But thanks to First Lady Michelle Obama, a bit more of the day-to-day eating habits of the new family living at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave has been learned.
"There are some mean waffles and grits that are made in the morning that have become a regular staple for some of us," Obama said. But she didn't reveal exactly for who that breakfast pairing has become a morning favorite. Though she was quick to add that she's not the one who eats waffles every day

I wonder what Ashley Judd has to say about Obama eating steak. Oh ,those poor cattle that have to die to feed Obama.
Why isnt American beef good enough for the “magic Negro”?
As for grits, oh man those things are nasty. Give me home fries every time.
There's that wagyu beef again. You sure couldn't tell the various governments are in a state of financial crisis from the fare being served at the White House.
Good one/lol. . .
“What? No nasi goreng, no chicken satay? Those are childhood favorites, are they not?”
Man, I love both of those. Killer good eats.
“Grits and turnip greens are a bad memory of my childhood and adolescence.”
Well, not to try to out do your hard times story; but I grew up on my grandfathers east Texas red clay farm (outhouse, cold shower in the well-house, etc). Anyway, we ate grits regularily. In fact, we often ate them as a breakfast ceral with some sugar, butter and milk, much the same as oatmeal is eaten today. In fact, I still make grits for breakfast from time to time (but I cheat and use the instant stuff). However, I have to confess that I am the only one in my family that will eat it - but that’s ok, more for me! Btw, I still like greens too - try them with a little tabasco. I also like southern staples such as fried okra and black eyed peas - gotta have with snaps though!
“Were these magic grits? Did you buy from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?”
Anyone really believe this?? Anyone?
Someone who believes this also believes BHO is going to make our nation stronger militarily and cut the deficit in half by the end of his term.
Kiss my grits. She’s worse than he is.
I guess lunch will be Popeys chicken and watermellon.
Truth be told, it had occurred to me that this might be just a bit of media manipulation...
Waffles and grits for White House breakfasts? Total and complete BS. Well... maybe for the servants.
You should know that in todays world links grits and blacks is racist.
:-)
I can still handle the fried okra and blackeyed peas with snaps, but I get a faint wave of nausea when I smell greens cooking.
You cook them regular or aldente?
I’m with you, being from Texas I always thought of grits as white food, I’m having a typical southern breakfast of grits and eggs this morning.
I’ve never heard of grits and waffles at the same breakfast though.
Chitterlings....explain the smell of those babies to foreign dignitaries.
At one time I was a chitterling inspector.
Sounds like the job of a lifetime!
Grits casserole with fish is a staple around here.
Cheese grits w/ bacon and eggs is another.
Yummy
