The dark secret is that the amendment allowing private citizens to own guns is intended to protect Americans from the American government, not the Soviet Union or the muslims. Few people are willing to accept that, because they are convinced that America is immune from every problem that every other world leader has faced over hundreds of years.

I do think that is changing. My concern is that we’ve gone so far down the road of people not having, or knowing how to use, weapons, that we could be in big trouble WHEN they start to say “it’s time.”

Even Hubert Humphrey, a Democrat, realized that:

Sen. Hubert Humphrey's statement, Know Your Lawmakers, Guns, Feb. 1960, p. 4 (1960): "Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against a tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible."

But then that was the Dem Party of fifty years ago. The Dem Party now is the Communist Party.
