Years ago, when ol' Meathead (Rob Reiner) proposed increasing taxes on tobacco and alcohol to fund children's healthcare (obviously Meathead is a user of neither of these products), I counter-proposed that thay also put a tax on movie theater tickets to help the poor children.
I never heard if ol' Meathead though this was a good idea or not. I wonder what he thinks?

The Dems in California enacted mostly regressive taxes. The one cent increase in the sales tax is terribly regressive. Then throw in doubling the car tax. And the increase in the gas tax. These all hit the poor the hardest. I thought democrats just wanted to soak the rich? What happened?!

Guess those dealers are either going to have to sell the public on the idea that sales tax on a new car is now deductable as an adjustment to income, or they’re going to have to eat a few hundred more bucks per car.
