>>Now this is a punishment of conservatives, because if you look at the voting map the RED STATES are more rural, and the BLUE STATES are more larger cities and closer together. That means the Conservative States will pay more mileage taxes, since people like Biden who ride the train and use more public transportation will pay none. Inner city people on welfare and subsidized housing rents will pay none.<<
A counter point is that its a punishment to people who drive hybrids who will have have to pay the full tax even though they use a lot less gas.
The tax is per mile, so it depends on how many miles you drive, and not the kind of car you drive. Those in Red Repub Voting areas have a longer commute for jobs, but also for groceries, school activities and general car use. These towns and rural areas are more spread out than NYC, Boston or Seattle, where everything is within a few miles of the homes.
Yes, the hybrids will also pay the tax, and if they shelve it and revive it later it may have another twist. Three states are considering implementing it as a state tax. If you travel, or have longer commute then you will pay more tax-— plus there is already gas tax...so it’s double taxation, if mileage tax gets implemented.
