Sen. Specter Jeered For Voting For Stimulus Plan

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter was greeted with jeers at a press conference in Cranberry Township.

Conservatives are fuming after Specter cast the deciding vote that led to the passage of President Barack Obama's stimulus plan.

Specter, 79, acknowledges his run for re-election will be tough.

He says he's not completely happy with Obama's plans but he points out that he was able to cut the price tag by over $100 billion and he says he was able to increase the amount of tax cuts.

Even so, Specter acknowledges the Republican Party's conservative wing will attempt to unseat him in next year's primary race.

Six years ago, Specter barely won the Republican primary, but he says he's not afraid to fight for the job one more time.

I heard that he asked a group of primarily democrat voters to cross over “become a Republican for a day” and vote for him in the primary. It was in Philadelphia.

If that's the case, then conservatives need to find someone willing to ensure that there's also a fight for the Democrat nomination, so that they'll be forced to hold a primary. I'd start now with learning the process and finding a candidate or three.

Does PA have an open primary? If so, the RATS will crossover and pick him for GOP candidate because this old fart is easily beatable.

>>79 years old and his massive ego will not let him retire. Makes me in favor of term limits.<<

I'd say most of the Senators think they are God. I've never seen so many out-of-touch-with-reality jerks in one place.

“Does PA have an open primary?”

According to wikipedia, PA has a closed primary.

I'd be happy if they just left office for whatever reason.

Nope.
Term limits would put the country (further) in the hands of Congressional staffs - a bunch of folks who never have to stand for election or leave their lairs in DC.

Think about it - most Congresscritters spend their every waking moment raising money for or campaigning for their next election, with occasional breaks to visit the Capitol and vote on bills they haven't read (their staff prepared an executive summary for them...) and didn't write (lobbyists, think tanks, or their staff wrote them...).

What we really need is to change the relationship between Congress and the rest of Federal Government: Don't you think its a conflict of interest that Congresscritters are essentially employees of the Federal Government?

The GOP is just the Democrat-lite party.

Sure, it has a few foreign policy conservatives that will trade off economic liberty for the sake of hardline foreign policy and defense spending. And it has a few libertarian conservatives. But most of them are just politicians of the worst sort. The GOP had its chance and blew it because its politicians are just as sleezy as Democrats. I was going to say they were just as unprincipled as the Democrats, but the Democrats are rock-solid by comparison when it comes to their support for abortion, government indoctrination in state schools, gay rights, and Italian-style economic fascism (aka socialism). The Republicans simply have no commitment to any particular principles except maybe self-enrichment and stupidity.

-- Did Rush not also help Specter? --

Indirectly, yes. There was a story swelling about Specter having accepted funding attached to certain political positions. The money flowered through one of the arms of the Republican Main Street Partnership. Limbaugh allowed Specter deny, live on the air, having any association with that particular "arm." It came off as "not any part of that group," which is correct only in a hypertechnical sense. Limbaugh never clarified the shell game.

When will the GOP learn that Conservatives can win if the party gets behind them?

The corrupt "Two-Party Cartel" which is owned by the elites, do not want a true conservative agenda to develope because it's against their domination. If there were more (R)s in the Senate there would have been more bought off & the same results would have occurred. The same for here in California with its budget. If there were 3 more conservatives in the senate & assembly, they would have been bought off & we still would have had increased taxation. It's the game played for many yrs & the sheeple haven't got a clue why they get sh%^ on each important vote & election.

I agree. Politics is a religion to the Dems and a $ maker to the Repubs.

They may register as GOP like they did in FL to pick our candidate. Look out for a lot of mischief.
