As for the man himself, I believe Jim Gerlach is a good man.
As a candidate, he has successfully fought off Dem attempts to take him down in a couple of very rough races where they see him as vulnerable in his diverse district.
He's fiscally conservative and not a flaming liberal on the social side, but of course, there are many who would like a nice liberal Democrat in there rather than someone who isn't "ideologically pure" (of course, had he been "pure" for the ACU, he wouldn't be in office anymore). For example, he's a member of Republicans for Environmental Protection and is in favor of Open-Space legislation.
If he could pull it off and Toomey weren't going for it, I'd like it if he would...but I doubt that his district would stay (R).
