Sales Up 10% for (Gun and Ammo) Manufacturers in Third Quarter
National Shooting Sports Federation ^ | 2-16-2009 | NSSF

Posted on 02/16/2009 2:30:42 PM PST by Atlas Sneezed

$90 MILLION GENERATED FOR CONSERVATION . . . New data from the U.S. Treasury Department show sales by firearm and ammunition manufacturers increased 9.7 percent between July and September when compared to the same period the previous year. Sales of pistols and revolvers were up 23.6 percent, ammo sales rose 8.4 percent and long gun sales saw a 4.1 percent increase, according to the latest Pittman-Robertson federal excise tax collection report. Excise taxes are calculated as a percentage of wholesale receipts, paid quarterly by firearm and ammunition manufacturers, and earmarked for state wildlife conservation and habitat restoration programs. These statistics are based solely on U.S. civilian sales and do not include sales to military, police, etc. During the quarter, $89.7 million was generated for conservation -- $19.8 million was collected for pistols and revolvers, $33.2 million for long guns and $36.6 million for ammunition. The latest tax collections suggest overall sales of $834.2 million, not including retail markup or final retail sales. Total excise tax collections for the federal government's fiscal year (Oct. 1 to Sept. 30) were $321.9 million.

Excise Tax Collections: July - September

Handguns $19,882,672.52

Long Guns $33,253,298.08

Ammunition $36,643,018.49

Total $89,778,989.09

Firearms and ammunition excise tax collections for third quarter of calendar year 2008.

For CCW, I use either a Kimber .45 with Crimson Trace grips, or a CZ RAMI with a capacity of 14.

For the spring/summer, I will need something smaller so am going to buy a Ruger LCP, but they are sold out now so I will have to wait.

What is this country coming to?

You know what it's coming to. We're not supposed to speak its name, and talking about it can get you banned, but everyone here knows what's coming.

Does anyone on this thread know where to get the best price on 1000 rounds of .223? I figure it’s as good an investment as gold, maybe even better...

Indeed.

Never thought it was possible, but the possibility looms large on the horizon.

Actually, the pump shotguns are the WAY TO GO for defense purposes.

I recommend the Mossberg 590, 20 in. 8 + 1 12ga and 3in magnums to boot.

About $350 ea.

Buy two along with a couple hundred 00 buck shells and your home is essentially defended.

"but everyone here knows what's coming".

Silence is golden. No reason to attract unnecessary attention.

Stay focused on the PRACTICAL and share tips and intel.

Do you have fuel to cook with? DO you have 100 days of food socked away?

If energy supplies dried up could you and your family survive in January? Vitamins? First Aid?

Can you protect what you have?

Does your wife and kids over 12yrs know how to shoot EVERY firearm in the house? You could be the first one to drop...

Talking about Obama's National Security Force and defending against same can get us banned? Who knew?

Totally agree. Strip off the front bead and install ghost ring sights. Rock solid, never jam performance, great capacity, throw on a sidesaddle and you've got 15 shells either in or on the gun and ready to go. I use mine for 3-gun matches and can pump the slide and be back on target almost as fast as the semi-autos without fear of jamming.

A thumb print for .22? What is this country coming to?

Rimfire ammo is very vulnerable in this political climate. Can't reload it, though I'm sure there are some enterprising people who would figure out a way (expensive though it may be - for example, Google "5mm Craig").

Lay in a good supply of .22LR. 5000 rounds is probably a good starting point.

My .45 is a Taurus Millenium Pro. Holds 10+1 rounds and fits in the palm of my hand.

I found two bricks of 550 22LR hollow points this past weekend, and felt like a kid at an easter egg hunt. I got both.

I can’t even find any ammo for my weapons locally. The shelves are and have been bare since just after the election.

Yep! I like my .40 SW, but I like my 8 shot .357 revolver better.

Walmart yesterday had a good supply of 9mm again, the first time since December. Curious how long it will last.

Yet no .45.

Ruger GP 100 .357 mag. Practice with .38’s.

Bingo. But be sure to shoot a couple .357 rounds so you won’t be surprised later. Twice the fire power.
