the White House is looking to install a small video or computer screen into the podium used by the president for press conferences and events in the White House. "It would make it easier for the comms guys to pass along information without being obvious about it," says the adviser.
The screen would indicate whom to call on, seat placement for journalists, pass along notes or points to hit, and so forth, says the adviser.
Using a screen is nothing new for Obama; almost nothing he said in supposedly unscripted townhall events during the presidential campaign was unscripted, down to many of the questions and the answers to those questions. Teleprompter screens at the events scrolled not only his opening remarks, but also statistics and information he could use to answer questions.
Obama had a teleprompter set up for his remarks last week, before taking questions, but the White House couldn't use the teleprompter for anything but the remarks, because the journalists were so close to the screens. Further complicating matters, teleprompter copy can't be easily updated in real time, in a setting like a White House press conference.

You cannot carry a war effort over the years with only one ad-libbed sentence you came up with before the first American shot in the war was fired.
The War on Terror may very well have been lost by Bush's inability to keep the American Home Front from becoming demoralized.
As I wrote in my last post:
"Have you ever heard the term "contact embarrassment"? That is that cringing feeling of embarrassment for somebody else that you get when somebody is doing so badly that you want to leave the room or switch the TV channel or radio station. That is the feeling I have had listening to George W. Bush defending a position that I supported. It was so bad, I had to turn the car radio off."
I wonder if he’ll have those tele-idiots to guide him when he’s meeting heads of states?
This guy is truly an embarrassment and what’s sad is he doesn’t know it.
Well, maybe that’s a good thing.

I’m off to see the Wizard, the phony Wizard of Oz.
He is a disgrace to this this country and a laughing stock of all other countries.
A puppet, with others pulling the strings. You can say he’s smart all you want. I don’t see a smart man when I look at him. I see a weakling controlled by a bunch of puppet masters.
What a bunch of moronic losers.
Precisely. . .Obama has extended the 'level playing field'. . .and it should be an embarassment for both him and 'particpants', world-wide.
The new teleprompter will coordinate answers to the pre-screened questions from hand-picked journalists
Don’t rule out that the press and some of the MSM doesn’t turn on him. They are a quirky, fickle group.
They won’t turn on him if they want to be invited back. He simply won’t tolerate dissention among the ranks.
If they are going to anticipate questions and formulate answers in advance for the use of the President, why not just post the questions and answers as FAQs on the White House website? Then both the press and the President could avoid the news conference, and never have to leave their offices!
I agree.
Is he being built or falling apart? Sure hope it’s the latter.
That’s the one, from ‘The Godfather’.
he teleprompter is a hard indicator that he is not prepared, to which being fairly up to speed on all current hot subjects is a major part of the job.

Hell it’s only been a month and he’s been to Chicago for 4 days, Camp David for 2 days, on the *campaign trail* for several days. He was bored in the WH after 2 weeks. This is a big dumb kid playing President.
It was obvious after the first three questions during the P.C. that he had a list of press to call on. And I’ll bet he knew the questions beforehand too.
(and still choked)
Obama is disses the Brit’s most famous and stalwart leader, Winston Churchill by returning the most famous bust of the man loaned to this country by the United Kingdom in the aftermath of 9//11
___________
Don’t forget to add they said he could keep it and he said” Thanks, but no thank”
While it may be true that Obama has no clue, I don't think it's reasonable in a general sense to say that the use of notes is an indication of "not having a clue." I'm sure there have been times when you've used notes yourself -- was that because you did not have a "frgging clue?"
Well..I’m not the frigging Prez of the most powerful country on earth either....you just like to play Devil’s Advocate or do you believe in the first affirmative action prez and are coming to his defense?
The media would have a field day if a republican did this.
Sounds like the sock puppet in chief is about to get even more articulate and clean.
Maybe he can hold a join press conference with Peanut and Achmed the Dead Terrorist.
