Are you saying that if they lose one RINO the Dems lose the bill? Hasn’t anyone heard of chloroform?

No. The Dem's need 60 to keep the GOP from blocking the bill. If they lose one RINO, the GOP could possibly block the bill for now. (At least, that's my understanding.)

Who were these Democrats, and did they make speeches explaining their opposition?

I've called and emailed my senators repeatedly . . . unfortunately between Specter and Casey, I have little hope of representation.

The Republicans are dropping the ball here. They should be praising the 7 Democrats for their patriotism and bipartisanship.

The crushing and grinding has been underway since 11/4/08. It will only get worse over the next 8 years.

What has been alarming to me is the breakneck speed - but I guess that should be no surprise given Rom Emmanuel's comment

"You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before."

Seven, huh?

Last time it was 11

Depending on who your listen to, there are either 51 or 59 blue dog democrats in the house, maybe one in the senate.

Looks like 4 of them were gotten to.

Thank goodness for the Republicans in the house.

They just need one RINO or one Democrat to switch for now. From Democrats Face Hurdles in Rounding Up Votes in Senate

Senator Kennedy won't be returning. Senator Brown, is hosting a viewing service for family and friends this evening in his home town of Mansfield, Ohio. The service ends at 8 p.m., and in order to cast his vote, Brown will race to a local airport and fly directly to Andrew's Air Force Base. (Because Brown could not find any commercial flights that accommodate his schedule, he is flying to Washington aboard a government aircraft, provided by the White House.)

Brown should arrive at the Capitol around 10:30 p.m., aides said, and Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) will hold the vote open as long as necessary. Then Brown will jet back to Ohio, where his mother's funeral is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

*snip*

"The bill originally passed the Senate by a 61-37 tally, but Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., suffering from brain cancer, is not expected to vote this time.

Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., who withdrew his nomination to be Obama's Commerce secretary, said he would vote against the bill.

Keep bugging the senators!

The senators from ME have been wooed by the Dems, feel important, and I will be shocked if they switch sides now.

Here’s an article from Time magazine, which talks about the courtship:
