Senator Gregg Statement on His Withdrawal for Consideration of U.S. Commerce Secretary
Sen. Gregg stated, I want to thank the President for nominating me to serve in his Cabinet as Secretary of Commerce. This was a great honor, and I had felt that I could bring some views and ideas that would assist him in governing during this difficult time. I especially admire his willingness to reach across the aisle.
However, it has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me. Prior to accepting this post, we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns. We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy.
Obviously the President requires a team that is fully supportive of all his initiatives.
I greatly admire President Obama and know our country will benefit from his leadership, but at this time I must withdraw my name from consideration for this position.
As we move forward, I expect there will be many issues and initiatives where I can and will work to assure the success of the President´s proposals. This will certainly be a goal of mine.
Kathy and I also want to specifically thank Governor Lynch and Bonnie Newman for their friendship and assistance during this period. In addition we wish to thank all the people, especially in New Hampshire, who have been so kind and generous in their supportive comments.
As a further matter of clarification, nothing about the vetting process played any role in this decision. I will continue to represent the people of New Hampshire in the United States Senate.
CNN has cut to Powell crying over the Historical win of OBAMA, does it never stop?
Nah, that’s boilerplate for statements like this and to be ignored like it was a fax header or something (unless it said Kinkos, but that’s another story). No, Gregg dropped a bomb with this one and I’m sure all the insiders know it. The MSM will have to spin like crazy to hide this one.
Since he chose to recuse himself from the recent vote on Porkulus, I’m assuming he’ll now be voting when it comes back for the final vote. Hopefully one more for our side.
On that point we strongly agree. At least he had the benefit of being kneecapped before he was subjected to confirmation hearings, and was confirmed. He's reversed an unwise decision before it became irreversible, and that's more than some people would have the wherewithal to do.
Leave it to Beaver, eh?
I’ve got Netflik and we are now going through the Stargate Atlantis series after doing 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1 and 7 seasons of Smallville and 6 seasons of Third Rock from the Sun.
And now we have 24 on real TV.
My husband says he just enjoys watching someone who will shoot the bad guys.
He’s been in the senate with Bambi for 2 years. He should have known the man’s lack of character and the fact that he never “reached across the aisle” once. It was a clear lack of wisdom and discernment on the part of Gregg to accept the role in the first place.
As far as I know, he hasn’t resigned from the Senate, so he gets to keep it.
And the hits just keep on comin!
Then you've much more patience than me !
They say it 'takes all kinds' but I've never really understood why
lol
Feel proud of urself sen gregg...
Gregg threw Obama under the bus first.
I hear Johnny Paycheck singing in the background.
Had they said anything about Gregg?

Pence: Remove Gregg or give him Census
###
House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (Ind.) said Thursday that President Obama should pull his nomination of GOP Sen. Judd Gregg (N.H.) as Commerce secretary or give Gregg oversight of the Census Bureau.
Obama nominated Gregg to run the Commerce Department last week, but quickly announced the White House would oversee the Census Bureau, which is under Commerce. The bureau is responsible for collecting data that helps distribute congressional seats to states, among other functions.
"If President Obama doesn't trust Sen. Judd Gregg to oversee a fair and accurate census, he should withdraw the nomination," Pence told reporters gathered at a press conference Thursday morning.
Pences comments come as House Republicans ratchet up their complaints over Obamas plan to place Census under the White House.
Obama made that move to appease lawmakers, including members of the Congressional Black Caucus, who did not want a conservative Republican in charge of the Census Bureau just as it is doing work that could lead to shifts in congressional seats.
My patience was exhausted in my mid-20’s when I was still idealistic. Not any more...
This sure looks like the way it went down.
Ah, if we’d only cheated big time on my taxes, maybe my husband could be commerce secretary. He’s disabled but still has his head screwed on straight.
