Rush will still be there, but its not really grassroots Woodstock anymore without her. Now, because of the letdown, its more like grassroots Altamont: Plenty of good acts and one great one to close the show, but an angry, angry crowd nonetheless. The opening-day headliner for the annual CPAC conservative convention February 26-28, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has pulled out, citing state business in Juneau. Were obviously disappointed, said a CPAC official. A spokesman for the three-day confab, organized by the American Conservative Union Foundation and others, said that Palin, the popular former vice presidential nominee, had indicated she would be able to attend but cited duties of governing in bowing out. Instead, she will send in a taped message. The Democrats up there have been grumbling about her being out of state so much. Maybe she figured she could either get away for the Alfalfa Dinner or CPAC but not both and had to make a hard choice. Exit question: Huckabee to replace her? The message, at least, will be similar. And hes anti-stimulus!
Now, if you and others want to vote for Romney, fine. Just don't try and pass him off as a conservative on this forum. Those people who backed Romney are either pseudo cons or sell-outs to the conservative cause.
Jim as already thrown down the gauntlet. He said if Willard runs for POTUS in 2012, he'll be given the same anti-liberal treatment Rooty received in the last election cycle. Very ugly.
Mark Sanford would be a good replacement (that’s if he’s not already going).
But I don't need to tell you that there's been a whopping vacuum in conservative leadership in the last umpteen years and I'm waiting for somebody to step up to the plate.
I'm desperate for her to be the Real Deal but I'm sure leery of allowing myself to be overwhelmed just because I want, nah, at this point, need something really, really bad.
Seriously, we really need a conservative to step up to the plate and say I'm ready, let's roll.
And DC is so tainted I don't see it coming from there no matter what kind of noises they're now making.
Please no Huck at CPAC!
Alfalfa is a bi-partisan event. The president was there as were many Republicans and Democrats. She caught holy he** in Alaska for going there. Had the event been political, it would’ve been far more brutal.
Her attorney general resigned today. The volcano is getting ready to erupt. Todd and members of her staff were just held in contempt. Some legislators are picking fights with her in the press re: the rural villagers not having food or heat; some are wearing “where’s Sarah?” buttons. She needs to present a new budget by the end of the month to take into account the steep drop in the price of oil. There is so much going on right now in Alaska that she would suffer tremendous trashing in the media for going to/staying 3 more days in DC to give a political speech. It’s really too bad that CPAC can’t set up a satellite feed.
That said, I have always wished that CPAC was during the summer, when things slow down a bit for me in my business (as well as for politicians).
The next thing I'm going to hear is Arlen Spector is doing the keynote.
It's really iffy if I'm going to pay this much next year.
The picture reminds me of the scene with Al Capone in “The Untouchables.”
Thanks for the other info, but I still don't understand why she had to attend this "important" bi-partisan event, thousands of miles away from Juneau. That it is "bi-partisan" isn't a good enough explanation for me.
I agree a CPAC satllite feed would be better than a stupid taped message...
The Alaskan Athorny General has just resigned over pressure from the ‘Troopergate’ scam. Sarah’s husband Tod and nine other state public servants have been branded with ‘contempt’ smear. Sarah has a lot on her plate to defeat this attempt to wear her out and topple her. It is time from Alaskans and all good men and women to rally to her support. It is plainly obvious from the treads in the local Alaskan press that the effort is concerted and orchestrated. (Same ‘meemes’ and talking points, even similar phrase and sentence construction).
BARF! Noooooooooooooo!!!
It's really iffy if I'm going to pay this much next year.
Same here, unfortunately. It was Sarah that pushed us over the edge to buy the Diamond Pkg. this year. You just know they'll tease us again with her next year...
Huck fancies himself as Al. He staged this to replicate the scene with his MSM buddies.
nutmeg, expect her to make at least one campaign appearance this summer in Virginia for Bob McDonnell. If you live near there, you can catch her there. While Alfalfa was bi-partisan, she took a lot of heat for going there while the legislature was in session and the volcano was ready to blow. If she attended CPAC, it would get REALLY brutal. AND, she needs to get re-elected, remember. I would definitely expect her to keynote CPAC if not next year then in 2011 once she’s been re-elected. She was not slated to keynote this year, and that’s where she belongs.
Agree totally with Emerson C.
So it looks like I’m not the only one who decided not to go when I found out Arlen Spector would be there.
ROTFL!!!!
Thanks for that info, but we tend to avoid the HOT Virginia summers... LOL (we're in Connecticut). We'll see, and make an exception if we can get to see Sarah in person there, though.
I don't know a thing about Bob McDonnell (and I'm a political junkie)... I hope he gets some name recognition soon. Forgive me if he IS well-known in Virginia, and I am the ignoramus. ;-)
Huckabee WILL be there... he was there last year, and I think the year before...
This is the list of speakers, it appears. Disregard 2008 at the top. They meant to type 2009.

She is mostly likely not attending this for the same reasons she skipped the House Republicans retreat she was invited to, if she attends events that are clearly ‘partisan’ the ADN the Dems and sadly the establishment Republicans will be all over her up there. Nobody in Alaska is going to give her a hard time for attending a dinner with Obama.
red, as to no one giving her a hard time, pls drop by my website re: “indigestion”. -:)
