UPDATE: Swine flu shuts down all of SCUCISD
By Ron Maloney
The Gazette-Enterprise
Published April 26, 2009
SCHERTZ State health officials Sunday ordered all 16 Schertz-Cibolo-Univesal City Independent School District campuses closed in an effort to contain the swine flu outbreak.
The action came one day after officials closed Cibolo’s Byron Steele High School after announcing a possible third case of swine flu had been confirmed at the facility and asked Guadalupe County residents to avoid attendance at large events or gatherings.
Sunday, SCUCISD Superintendent of Schools Belinda Pustka announced the district’s instructions had changed since a Saturday afternoon press conference in which the first closure was announced.
“We have been told to close all schools in the district for one week,” Pustka said in a recorded call sent to all SCUCISD parents Sunday. “The health department strongly recommends that all public events be cancelled.”
Dr. Sandra Guerra, a Department of State Health Services regional director and the public health authority for Guadalupe County said the closures are precautionary and are intended to suppress the cluster of swine flu cases in Guadalupe County and hopefully slow or stop the spread of the illness, which is so far believed responsible for about 70 deaths in Mexico.

Yahoo News ^ | 4/26/2009 | Alexander Haislip
The swine flu outbreak is likely to benefit one of the most prolific and successful venture capital firms in the United States: Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Thomson Reuters Private Equity Week reported on Friday.
Shares of the two public companies in the firm’s portfolio of eight Pandemic and Bio Defence companies — BioCryst Pharmaceuticals and Novavax — jumped Friday on news that the swine flu killed a reported 60 people in Mexico and has infected people in the United States.

300 suicide bombers are on their way to Islamabad, Pakistan and plan to attack the capital and certain local officials of foreign embassies there, Interior Ministry sources said.
The suicide bombers also plan to attack Rawalpindi and Lahore and are being led by five top Taliban commanders who are close aides of Baitullah Mehsud, the leader of the country's unified Taliban movement, according to the sources.
The commanders have left North Waziristan for Islamabad and would supervise the terrorist operations planned by Baitullah Mehsud in these cities, the sources added. Pakistan's Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah confirmed the report, saying that security measures had been adopted to thwart such threats. The law enforcement agencies have planned counter strategies to deal with the situation, the secretary said.

Algerian, Moroccan stowaways arrested in Canada
26/04/2009
Authorities in the Canadian port of Halifax found five Moroccan and two Algerian illegal immigrants hiding on a Swedish cargo ship arriving from Antwerp, Belgium, Echorouk reported on Saturday (April 25th).
The stowaways, all young men in their twenties, were taken into custody on Thursday night. Border officials are conducting interviews to determine whether to deport them or allow them to begin a refugee claim process, Canadian press reported.
The numbers sure are going up quickly. This is not looking good. In a couple of weeks we could have a full on, world wide, pandemic.
