Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Arlen Specter, one of three GOPers expected to cross the aisle on stimulus cloture, offers a Washington Post op-ed today in defense of the "Moderate's Bill" which cut about $100 billion from the House stimulus package.
His argument to Republicans: We've pushed Pelosi as far as she's willing to go -- and need to take this deal now.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the proposed cuts "do violence to what we are trying to do for the future," especially on education. Her objections are a warning to conservatives that more cuts would be unlikely to win House approval. They are also an admission of the high price that moderates have been able to extract for their support of stimulus legislation.
Those who don't learn from it are doomed to repeat it. Already the GOP is gearing up for more Circus Freak Tent policies and elections. The GOP leadership had better start booting some socialist out of the party and cutting them loose from any funding. I can name three right now. What do you think will happen?
If they voted tonight for the bill the GOP senate leadership would be having laughs and lunch with both DEMs and those three traitors tomorrow. In other words they do not take the falling of this nation serious. To them this is just another what can you do for me later deal.
98.6%!
What the hell d’ya want?!?!
And no, I'm not living in the past. I just make judgments based on behavior and track record. One good move hardly offsets the catastrophe the GOP created in the 2006 midterms and in 2008.
Three yes votes booted from the party and/or cut off from party funding. Simple enough? Then maybe next time the RINO's might not be as fast to jump the fence.
His position is indicative of the empty cave he has for a cranium. In his opinion this is all about pushing or not pushing Pelosi too far.
Doing what’s right for the country is a concept that is as alien to him as intelligence.
“They want PA badly.”
With an idiot like Specter in there, they might as well have it anyway.
One more “present” from George Bush II to conservative America.
Hey Sphincter!
You push...It'll make you feel better.
Yes, hopefully the positive trend of late will continue.
I’m fine with that.
Yet more emissions from Arlen Sphincter.
“His argument to Republicans: We’ve pushed Pelosi as far as she’s willing to go — and need to take this deal now. “
Non sequitor. Why does we need to take ANY deal at all?!?!
Stupid RINO. Stampeded into the ‘we have to do something’.
Yes, the Republicans have to continue to fight. JimRob, Kristinn and a whole bunch of others are in D.C. now fighting for what is right. I’ve done what I could from here...letters, e-mails, etc. Our country’s future is in the Republican’s hands. May God be with them.
OK idiot Specter, WE DON'T WANT A PORKULUS TO PASS!
Don’t push round heels to far. You might not like what you never wanted to see.
Specter and the other two are cowards and traitors—and I don’t say that lightly. The other Republicans in the House and Senate finally grew a pair and resisted this mess, but not Specter and the other two stooges.
