The President walked alone across the South Lawn grass, gave a quick wave to the press and boarded Marine One. But, first he stopped to shake the hand of the very startled, caught off-guard Marine who was standing at attention at the steps to the helicopter.

Maybe he has a thing for guys in uniform... All kidding aside at least he is polite to those covering his a$$.
What’s he doing in that pic? Digging for a Guinness record booger?
You’re coming into this discussion after it’s been turmed away from the original statement I made. In post #15, I posted:
“Of course the Marine was startled. Hes required by duty to stand at attention until the Commander in Chief is boarded. Obama broke protocol, like the idiot he is.
“And of course Obama saw the Washington Monument. The jagged flight plan of Marine One goes fairly close to the monument as it flies right around it coming and going, because of all the restricted air space in D. C.”
I was responding to the statement by Obama, as recorded by Tapper, that he saw the Washington Monument.
The flight path of Marine One scoots around the Washington Monument, as it follows a prescribed series of zigs and zags. That is its normal flight path every time.
That’s all this was originally about. But after a couple of challenges by xone, I find myself being chastised for, I suppose, making comments about helicopters even though I’ve never flown a helicopter. Apparently, there is no way anyone but a helicopter pilot could know any generalized facts about the normal flight path of Marine One.
(Except somebody who watches the National Geographic Channel, and sees a documentary on Marine One. Nah, not even someone who does that. Sheesh.)
Is that you, Barack? The arrogance is familiar.
Wow, I didn't know you had so much experience in this! LOL. NatGEO and a documentary, my apologies what a dolt!
Is that you, Barack? The arrogance is familiar.
If anyone is a 'Barak' in this exchange; you demonstrate almost as much military and flight experience as the One, almost. If you cheated on your taxes with your experience you're qualified to be SecDef in this administration. That is an acronym for the Secretary of Defense in case you missed NCIS this week because you were on United airlines flight.
Maybe he’s like Clinton and doesn’t know how to salute. Remember, they had to teach Clinton how to salute but at least he was willing to learn and pretend it was important.
I think i just said something positive about Clinton. That might be a first.
Amazing, you’re proving me right the entire time you’re going all sarcastic and arrogant.
Since you think I’m wrong, then please characterize for us what the REAL flight path involves for Marine One when it is flying to (and then from) the White House landing zone? Does it not fly fairly close to and partially around the Washington Monument, and follow something of a zig zag path through parts of D. C.?
The final question: What’s YOUR source for your information that corrects me on those points?
But if all you’ve got are more ad hominem attacks, then don’t bother, because it won’t advance the discussion one iota.
Bambi doesn’t know how to salute.........
You wanna rethink that one? Marine on ignores air space rules.
See #103 please.
Ok, I read the thread - don’t confuse evasive, non-predictable flight paths with flight paths constrained by law (”restricted airspace.”) There are no restrictions on Marine One.
OBTW, posting Marine One’s planned flight path on a given day would be illegal.
For the same reason that there is more than one of them, and you are not told which one the President is on. If he is.
Reggie is a former Dookie Basktball player who endulged a little too much one night and wound up passed out on a couch at a Carolina frat party...
There are other pictures involving "tea bags" but if you really want to, you can find those somewhere on the internet. Yes, it really is Obama's "personal advisor Reggie Love".
OK, that’s a decent and much appreciated reply. I understand.
I never intended to be saying that Marine One was restricted, only that it flies IN restricted air space, in D. C., which provides security in that others are not allowed to fly in the same space. Does that make it more clear?
Also, the doc I watched seemed to be clearly stating that at a certain point in the flight to the White House landing zone where the path pretty much has to be the same, or very nearly so. There isn’t much latitude because of buildings, monuments, trees, etc. That’s the path I was talking about.
The children are back in the White House.
” never intended to be saying that Marine One was restricted, only that it flies IN restricted air space, in D. C., which provides security in that others are not allowed to fly in the same space. Does that make it more clear?”
Yep, and you are correct. Not even Marine One can fly through an oak tree.
LOL!
Again, I will reference your total lack of 'getting it'..In DC, it would be impossible for Marine One to NOT fly in restricted airspace in DC. Why? Because the air over DC is restricted airspace for a 30 nm mile radius, The interior 15 mile radius is prohibited airspace surface to 18000 MSL. The airspace over Camp David is restricted as well. At any rate, it is impossible for two aircraft to fly in the 'same space'.
only that it flies IN restricted air space
As pointed out above, in DC it is impossible for Marine One to not fly in restricted airspace. If your contention is that Marine One only flies in restricted airspace you'd be again, sadly wrong. Restricted airspace does NOT preclude other aircraft from operating in the Restricted area at the same time as MO.
Does it not fly fairly close to and partially around the Washington Monument, and follow something of a zig zag path through parts of D. C.?
And?? Been to DC? It is tough to plan an approach to the White House lawn without coming 'fairly' close to the Washington Monument. As indicated earlier, a zig zag course has more to do with remaining unpredictable than trying to stay in an R-area. As Patton has already pointed out, maybe without seeing the same special, is that MO flight path on any given day is not for publication.
The final question: Whats YOUR source for your information that corrects me on those points?
Have you ever heard of HMX-1? Google it.
But if all youve got are more ad hominem attacks, then dont bother, because it wont advance the discussion one iota.
LOL, waaaaah, piece of advice, don't rely on TV shows to portray accuracy in the real world.
Listen, you continue to misrepresent and misinterpret what I’ve written in this thread. So, either you are doing that intentionally, or English isn’t your native language.
You’ve never actually said you are or have been in HMX-1. Assuming that’s true, if you had said that right away, rather than making a new career out of arrogant sniping, we might have had an informative and healthy discussion.
But apparently you’ve got a burr up your butt. That’s your problem, not mine.
Funny, with this last post of yours, you are actually confirming most of the things I said in post #15. Do you realize that?
As I said in a subsequent post, my use of ‘restricted air space’ in #15 was inaccurate, but other than that, you are confirming much of what I actually said. So, what is the real problem? Why did you feel the need to expend all that energy over this?
Well, if it made you feel better to do all that, more power to you.
That's it. Just seeing how far you would take your TV review.
Listen, you continue to misrepresent and misinterpret what Ive written in this thread. So, either you are doing that intentionally, or English isnt your native language.
My arrogance/sniping? This would be another area you would be under-qualified to fence with me about, but as a gentleman, that battle is best to do face to face to see who really has the 'game'. Marine ready rooms are battle training grounds in this area and you best be able to take it as well as bring it. Interesting use of the anonymous keyboard with your posting name.
Flying is a precision art. Repeatable accuracy. When you were corrected the first time you continued on, arguing that you were misinterpreted when the statements/conclusions you made were inaccurate or flat out wrong. When confronted rather than bowing to the fact that it was possible someone might know more about this than you you continued on beginning the arrogant schtick. You continue it here in this post. There was never going to be an 'informative and healthy' discussion with you over this because you already had your answers and posted them and now were countering any correction to your lack of precision.
As for confirming your statements about DC R-area that would be similar to confirming the 'sky is blue' and yet you compounded that by mis-stating the purpose of the R-area airspace. You use broad statements and words like 'always', and even when you profess non-aviator status, you continued to define terms like you were Chuck Yeager. Your lack of knowledge of particulars and your familiarity with some trivia meant that your conclusion was going to be faulty.
Youve never actually said you are or have been in HMX-1.
From this exchange, it is apparent to me I could have been the CO and posted from Marine One itself on short final and it wouldn't have mattered.
So, what is the real problem? Why did you feel the need to expend all that energy over this?
You are a purveyor of bad gouge, you post on a technical point but have no knowledge. When corrected you resort to ad hominem attacks even when someone from the outside of our conversation (getmeouttaPalmBeachCounty_FL and patton) with knowledge proves that you are wrong it doesn't stop you. You are bad gouge, you can't be stopped, only fought.
