No they weren't. They were originally the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Eagles both started in 1933. The Eagles were named after one of FDRs programs. In 1940, the Eagles moved to Pittsburgh and became the Steelers. The Pirates moved to Philadelphia and became the Eagles.

OOPS I am not the football fan as you can tell. I prefer baseball and hockey. My mother said Steelers but I typed Pirates. lol She also commented that 6 wins was just greedy!
