At least 42 people have died in the icy arc of destruction that began in the Midwest. At least nine deaths were reported in Arkansas, six each in Texas and Missouri, three in Virginia, two each in Oklahoma, Indiana and West Virginia and one in Ohio. Most were blamed on hypothermia, traffic accidents and carbon monoxide poisoning from generators.

Headline via the The Sundries Shack, which asks, "Has anyone seen FEMA lately?"
It seems we have people dying by the dozens in the midwest, where they've been freezing to death for a few days. Local officials are calling out the Federal government for its notable lack of response.
But Bill Quick (found via Instapundit) believes that "'Where's FEMA?' is not the appropriate question":
The appropriate question is, "Where is the mainstream media, screaming in one united voice, that the absence of FEMA demonstrates the utter fecklessness and failure of the current President and all his policies?"
Plus his barely concealed racism, of course.
This might be a good time for those who have pledged "to be a servant to my president" to head out there, rather than bitching about the contractors working next door. On the plus side though, to the best of my knowledge, no one on the left has actually been rooting for the snow and ice, unlike previous meteorological disasters:
Obama will get a free pass from the media.
And this isn’t even counting those freezing to death here a bit further north.
President Obama hates white people.
What was the expression on º’s face when he heard this news?
Did he leave straight away and call FEMA?
I think they should call off the Superbowl and the President should fly there immediately. He is in his superheated office while people are out dying.
ays have to plan ahead and either have a generator or an portable oil heater like I do.
doesn’t the governor have to ask for Fed help ?
But not from this media.
We’ll give him as much exposure as possible.
OholyO is planning his Superbowl party, Kentucky can just freeze the hell over, they voted red remember? /simmering anger
Even I am now starting to wonder why the ONE hasn’t said anything about this.
Actually he’s at the Alfalfa Club diunner yukkin it up.
Obama dozed, people froze.
In my best Kanye West voice “Obama hates white people in Kentucky”.
I don’t think there’s many people actually freezing to death. Even homeless people manage to survive in cardboard boxes filled with newspaper.
Because those people didn’t vote for him.
The appropriate question is, "Where is the mainstream media, screaming in one united voice, that the absence of FEMA demonstrates the utter fecklessness and failure of the current President and all his policies?"
Plus his barely concealed racism, of course.
...Of course, Of course...
but the (Much Much More Important Media Event)
W.H. Super Bowl Party Planning Must go On....
Obama: I Dont Care About White People
WASHINGTON (AP) - While hundreds of thousands of people in Kentucky go without heat or electricity due to this weeks ice storm, President Barack Obama explained his indifference to the weather-related tragedy by saying Ive been kinda busy this week, and besides, I dont care about white people, anyway.
After the vicious winter storm swept through the state, more than half a million people Kentuckians were left shivering in the dark. Weve got lots of counties that do not have any communication, any heat, any power, Steve Beshear, the states governor, said Wednesday.
I cant believe theyre closing down the state because of what, some ice? said Obama incredulously. When it comes to the weather, those inbred honkies dont seem to be able to handle things. Too bad they dont have my flinty Chicago toughness. Its even more too bad that Kentucky used to be a slave state. I guess being afflicted by all those white-devil snow flakes is simply Gods justice.
So far, 24 deaths have officially been blamed on the storm. That toll is expected to rise over the next few weeks, since damage was so widespread that repair crews dont anticipate complete restoration of services until mid-February. Emergency officials said that utility workers were doing everything they could, but that there simply were too many felled lines, especially in remote areas of the state, to move any faster.
Id really love to help out, said Obama, absent-mindedly scratching his face with his middle finger, but Ive got my hands full trying to push my stimulus package past those Pigmently-Challenged partisan hack Republicans in the Senate. Speaking of Republicans, did you know I only got 40% of the vote in yonder red state? And NOW they want me to make them a priority? I guess hillbillies really are as dumb as everyone says.
