As to Steele I forgot he backed Scumcrest. Though I doubt any RNC chair would openly back say a primary challenge to Specter.
Thankfully the job is not really policy-heavy.
Socially liberal RINO Tom Davis did a good job at the NRCC.
Blackwell was my first choice even though he’s the worst speaker, that’s a facet of the job right now but not the most important.
He mas also possibly the most conservative. It’s curious he backed Steele over Dawson. He seemed to get in it with Dawson at the debate with his “swing state of South Carolina” crack.
Steele did impress me with what he said at the debate. I hope for the best.
Unfortunately it’s true not much of a direct effort has been made to get black votes. Just talking to everyone about good policy is obviously not good enough, there’s some deep-seated ingrained hostility to GOP that will take direct effort to combat.

They should. Sphincter will be 80 in 2010. He looks older. When we don't dump these senile embarrassments in marginal states, we risk losing them in the general. Look at Ted Stevens, and that's NOT a marginal state.

I think there was a racial element to it. There were two strong Black candidates and he felt it was time for the GOP to have a Black Chair, and one to counter the False Messiah. But I still think Dawson was more accomplished. With Steele, we still run the risk of this being more novelty and a stunt rather than being more substantive with someone who will bring desperately needed change to our own party (and boy do we REALLY need change and hope - in that order, in our party. Change to solid Conservatism and hope that it will hold and yield results).
It’s a disgrace that Specter has even been there that long. Unfortunately PA won’t go for a real Republican, Santorum was an aberration.
Blackwell was tripping over his words. He sounded like Bush and reminded my of my grade-school gym teacher.
They rated him the big loser of the debate. If he had spoken with Steele’s voice he would have been the winner IMO. What he said was very good. He had a 50-state strategy plan.

Actually, from what I understand, a significant number of folks are “clinging” to those still current remarks (they have not yet been repudiated, to the best of my knowledge). I read in the Washington Times this morning that Mr. Steele's election to the RNC Chairmanship was hampered by the perception on the part of many RNC members that Mr. Steele is soft on issues such as gun control and abortion.
The test will be now whether Mr. Steele will clearly affirm that Roe will go, or will cause these widespread doubts about him to fester due to his failure to clarify his previous remarks.

Gee whiz, this isn't rocket science, Norman. If you say something and you decide upon reflection that you shouldn't have said it, or you said it poorly, or that it was a gaffe, all you need to do is correct yourself. We all say things that we'd like to take back. The best thing to do usually is to say, “I goofed. What I should have said, and what I truly mean and believe is...”
If it was merely a verbal gaffe on Mr. Steele's part, then he need only say that. Mr. McCain said some pro-Roe stuff in 1999. Within days or weeks, he corrected himself. His head didn't explode upon retracting his pro-Roe comments.

Blackwell just needs to learn how to communicate. That was a big reason why he lost to the communist Ted Scumland by an embarrassing 23% margin.

No, I didn't. Look at my posts regarding Mr. McCain.
My problem with Mr. McCain wasn't on the topic of abortion, but rather with topics like immigration, campaign finance reform, judicial nominations, etc., etc., etc. If I hadn't accepted him as a pro-lifer in the last campaign, I would not have voted for him, no less donated hundreds of dollars to his campaign.
Thus, his retraction was good enough for me. As it would be with Mr. Steele. If he were to make one. Which he hasn't. Which thus leaves him in the camp of “not pro-life.”

I'm not proud of any Brother Knight who says that Roe should stay in place.

I don't hold him in contempt. Now you're making up garbage. I've said that I like Mr. Steele, that I think he's a good guy.
But that at this time, I no longer know whether or not he is sufficiently pro-life to garner my support. And since he's the CHAIRMAN OF THE WHOLE DARNED PARTY, his failure on the issue of life persuades me to consider changing my registration from Republican to something else.

My standards are exceedingly low. The bar is set low indeed. He does not currently meet even this most minimal standard - the head of the Republican Party must be explicitly pro-life, and that means that he must demand that the lives of unborn children be protected in law. And that requires that one way or the other, Roe must go.
If the head of the party cannot meet this most minimal standard, then the head of the party isn't genuinely pro-life. And then, I will not belong to the party.
If Mr. Steele wishes to clarify that he didn't mean what he said, then I will support him as the head of the party. Mr. McCain did it in 1999. Why must I accept less from Mr. Steele.
