Tim Geithner confirmed (with GOP support)
The GOP Wilderness ^ | January 27, 2009 | The GOP Willderness

Posted on 01/27/2009 5:51:54 AM PST by bmweezer

Tim Geithner is Obama's new treasury secretary, after being confirmed 60-34 last evening in the U.S. Senate. In the end, it appears that Geithner's nomination received nominal GOP support thanks to two points: first, there was no telling who Geithner's replacement would have been (they could have been worse) if the confirmation was derailed and two, some GOPers remain spineless. Until our elected GOP members gain a spine and realize that their place right now is as a strong opposition and oppose bad nominations and bills, the party's troubles will certainly continue.

Thirty-two Republicans voted against the nomination (as well as Democratic Senators Byrd, Feingold, and Harkin), while the following gave a firm 'yea':

Corker, Cornyn, Crapo, Ensign, Graham, Gregg, Hatch, Shelby, Snowe, and Voinovich.

Kudos go to the following GOPers that one would not think would have voted against this nomination, but did: Collins, Lugar, McCain, and Specter.

I called Corker's DC office this morning and also sent an email. I told him I wanted back my vote for him as Senator.

I also told him if I wanted a Dem in that seat I would have voted for one.

YOU ARE CORRECT! These must be his glorious last votes to really screw over Ohio. What wonderful sentiments from a man who was once Governor of this state.

http://www.thegreenpapers.com/G09/OH.phtml

From the above link, he announced his retirement on January 12 and Rob Portman has thrown his name into the ring.

In other Ohio news, current Governor Ted Strickland is up for reelection in 2010 and two Republicans have announced intentions to challenge him: Kevin Coughlin and John Kasich

There is no question that Hussein can do whatever he wants with the huge margin of control he has in both houses of Congress.

Hussein has a virtual 'blank check' at this point with his astronomical approval rating and big control of both Houses.

With the half-dozen or so RINO's in the Senate,,,

he has, in effect, a CLOTURE-PROOF Senate too!!

With the democrats in control of the House, the Senate and the White House--liberals have the Triple Crown.

As soon as Hussein makes his first Supreme Court appt--liberals will have hit the GRAND SLAM (House, Senate, WH and Supreme Court).

No President that I am aware of our history has had: total control of the House and Senate (even cloture-proof with the half dozen RINO's), a huge approval rating, with a 'blank check' from the populace for 'undefined change'.

This makes Hussein the most powerful President EVER--even more than FDR. As soon as he gets the Supreme Court in liberal hands (one more appt)--

the LIBERAL TAKEOVER WILL BE COMPLETE, UNQUESTIONED AND OVERWHELMING.

Don’t think for a second that you can do what your overlords have done.

“Graham-The Zelig of American Politics!”

If he could, he would probably turn black at this moment in history.

Voinovich is not running again. He made his retirement official last week. The only problem is avoiding another RINO to replace him. Rob Portman is already out campaigning for the spot.

At least the Dem. nonentitiy from Ohio, Brown, had the sense to not vote at all.

“Cornyn really disappoints me on this, I expected better of him.”

It’s about what I expected out of him, I think he is really a dim at heart, he just trys to appease conservatives once in a while when they start criticizing him.

We used a widely touted tax program that failed to carry over income that was properly entered. We were notified that payment and interest were due by April 15 of this year.
It’s interesting that you can only ask the programs staff a question for 29.95 and more if it exceeds 20 minutes. We are not happy and to see this crook get the nod affirms that that the intent of this admin is to sink the once “Shining City on the hill”.

Ensign voted yes?

I am so disappointed. I have a letter on my desk to send him begging him to stand strong and not vote for a person whose criminal behavior would have landed any of the rest of us into big trouble.

I will have to re-draft the letter, I guess and send it, expressing my disappointment.

I think he paid the interest and penalties

Actually, no, the IRS waived his penalties, even though they are supposedly mandatory for amounts owed over $5000.

Then I want my $34,000 tax abeyance for as long as it takes me to owe that much ~ penalty and interest free.

Seems fair enough to me anyway.

(NOTE: With interest rates in the dirt these days ain't no thang)_.

Voinovich has been a disappointment since his days in the Governor’s office. I can’t wait for his retirement...

Remember the last stimulus check we got? My brother in law says he only got $300, my sister confirms this because she saw the check. He paid taxes and has a wife and child. Last week he filed his income taxes. He asked the tax preparer to explain why he only got $300. The lady looked it up and the record says he received $600. What happened to the other $300? I’m thinking it was stolen and went to the annointed one’s campaign fund
