WASHINGTON -- Democratic leaders in the House are nearly certain to drop federal funding for new contraceptive services and on-going programs to stop sexually transmitted diseases from the $825 billion economic stimulus bill due to hit the floor Tuesday, a senior official told FOX News. (snip)
The contraceptive funding is an effort to expand federal efforts to prevent unwanted births. Currently, Medicaid provides family planning services after women become pregnant. This move would focus all federal funds on contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies, not the other family planning services Medicaid provides.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi defended the policy initiative Sunday on ABC's "This Week." (snip)
Despite Pelosi's argument, Democrats and the Obama White House appear eager to deprive Republicans of what's become a key attack line against the stimulus bill.
After Friday's White House meeting with the president, House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio asked, "How can you spend hundreds of millions of dollars on contraceptives? How does that stimulate the economy?"

There certainly is no reason to trust them, that is certain. We should start a pool to see who guesses the closest to the date when Madam Pelosi will introduce gubmint funded euthanasia.....after all, old folks "cost" the gubmint far more than the children she wants to make sure are never born....
This is a great point. Any Catholic FReepers in San Francisco or Washington DC should make a point of this with their local Bishop or Priest if there is a 'Nancy sighting' at mass.
When our Dear Leader starts pushing the Health care bill written by little Tommy Daschle, begin to worry.
There will be taxpayer funded voluntary euthanasia at first, then the gubmint will allow the administrators of the plan to choose for you.
Old, disabled, or terminally ill? You will be dealt with.
The short sighted view is that this will save money over the next 5 years.
The long view is that if the money were provided it would only stimulate businesses which profit in the death of children and then leave the mothers to deal with the issue for the rest of their lives including when they get to a nursing home and complain that nobody cares and there is no money left to help them because social security is broke and their children (if they have any) have discarded them.
Pay for a little pill now or an abortion later.
It is easier for a Priest or even Pastor who offers “sympathy” for an unrepentant Pelosi to find cover. One who controls a wider area is more of a target and whoever is the Bishop in Pelosi’s Diocese should be met with monopoly money during the next Bishop’s appeal.
That means correction of those who thumb their noses at God while opening the mouth or palm to receive Communion.
I’ll believe it when I see it, but I still refuse to support any more bailout crap.
This is how we stay in minority. We need to get abortion crowd to demand this stay in(even if we have to make believe we are them calling, emailing covertly) , if republicans support this bill they are doomed. Win a battle, lose a war. Republicans need to hold out for extending Bush tax cuts.
This was a great way to bring the bill down.
