Matthews: Bush, Hitler, Stalin—All ‘Aggressors’
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

George Bush may be gone as president, but BDS is apparently forever. Deep in the throes of derangement, Chris Matthews this evening labelled America under George Bush an “aggressor” akin to the regimes of Hitler and Stalin. The Hardball host was David Shuster’s guest on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It was Shuster’s playing of a clip of Pres. Obama talking about reclaiming the “moral high ground” on issues like torture that set Matthews off.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: I grew up with the idea that we were the good guys all the time in foreign policy. Maybe that’s naive, but when we use words like “aggressor,” we’re going to stop aggression, we’re going to stop countries from invading other countries.

We had to stop using that language under the Bush administration, because we were the aggressor. We took over Iraq. They hadn’t attacked us. We attacked them, overtook their country, hanged the guy in charge and ran the show for all these last years. We can’t even use the old-time good guy/bad guy language of “stop the aggressor.” Hitler was an aggressor. Stalin was an aggressor. The Japanese empire was an aggressor. They were the bad guys, aggressors.

Hey Chrissy, GWB didn’t decide to invade a country simply because of a desire to rule the world as did Hitler and Tojo. Stalin also wanted to build an empire. GWB used miltary action against aggressors who wanted to attack and kill American civilians - who had done so on several occasions (without much for response during 8 years of Clintoon). A somewhat different reason for “invading” or being an “aggresor” as compared to the three you have failed to compare President Bush to.

This little coward refused in his own time to wear his country’s uniform and instead joined the Peace Corps. Camelot feel good stuff. He is the very embodiment of ‘girly man.’

Didn’t Matthews and his fellow-travelers spend ten years condemnig Bush 41’s decision not to go into Baghdad?

Would the US have been the ‘aggresor’ if we’d gone into Afghanistan and stopped bin Ladin before he incinerated nearly 3000 Americans on our own soil? Establishing a democracy in the Middle East, in a country with a history of accomplishment, was vital to our nation’s long term security. Now, Iraq is that fledgling democracy, whether Matthews would ever have the intellectual honesty or guts to admit it.

Matthews and the other spinweavers have to come into the 21st Century. They persist in clinging to the Hitler/Stalin paradigm. Whatever their faults, and however evil their cause, Hitler and Stalin fought relatively conventional warfare. Islamic militants do not. They don’t put on a uniform, just like Chrissy. So, no, it’s not so easy to find the ‘bad guys’ cause those ‘bad guys’ can be a teenage girl, or a mentally challenged person persuaded to wear an explosives fanny pack.

I shouldn’t read about his comments, they get my blood pressure up too high. I’m glad you suffer thru MSNBC on our behalf, Mark.

Actually, the US did the job the UN was supposed to do to international actors that break the law. Iraq under Saddam was in breach of numerous UN Security Council resolutions. He was also a brutal dictator, and it was a humanitarian effort to remove him. It was a necessary police action that the “international community” should have taken. Chris Matthews is wrong.

George Bush an “aggressor” akin to the regimes of Hitler and Stalin.

Hmmmm...Is that right?.

Ostensibly, unknown to Matthews, Chairman Mao makes Hitler and Stalin (and Pol Pot, for that matter) look like a cartoon...just look at the numbers and you will see that I am correct.

In other words, it's interesting how Mao "gets off the hook" in usual public discourse.

The older he looks, the more of a child he becomes. The man is pathetic in his everlasting impenetrable ignorance of history and the world as it really is. I used to shrug off such idiocy, but now I can no longer stand it. I wish him and his allies have a dozen 9/11’s... go off in their pants.

Matthews was right. That weapons of mass destruction crap was total BS. About as stupid as Clinton bombing the aspirin factory. When you attack a country that hasn’t done anything to you that is aggression. Now our troops are there so we have to shut the f**k up and support our troops so Matthews was wrong imho to say this in public where our enemies can use it against us, but the truth is what the truth is. it just ought to be kept on the downlow between us Americans.

parsy, who hopes we get out of Iraq asap.

Exactly. Matthews is such a stupid idiot (ask me how I feel). George Bush had a GOOD heart and spine to do what was necessary to rid a country of a god-like meglomaniac (Sadam a.k.a Nebuchanezzar wannabe). Ask today a bunch of Iraqi people if GW Bush was honorable to free them from Hussein’s (Sadam - not BHO) death grasp. The Iraqi people, I do believe in my heart, have a better sense of American Freedom than a lot of idiot liberals here and abroad have either forgotten or never knew.

It’s sad that recent immigrants to the United States have a greater grasp of what Freedom is (and the cost to maintain it) than people who have lived in this country since birth. I’m constantly irritated by people who see “Freedom” as meaning they can do and act in any way they want and then complain about receiving consequences for their illegal acts.

This will backfire on the Obamamedia. Americans look forward to problems being solved, not reopen old wounds.

My favorite “Agressor was ole’ Genghis Khan. With great generals like Subedai, Genghis died an Old man, undefeated, and with the largest empire in history. He taught his sons well as they took their father’s advice and even expanded the empire 25 years after his death.

Is Chris Mathews the first gay cable reporter that is NOT a movie reviewer?
