New York Gov. David Paterson will name Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, an upstate Democrat, to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate, a Democratic official with knowledge of the governor's decision told FOX News on Thursday night.
Gillibrand, elected in 2006, represents the state's 20th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. She is the first Democrat to represent the district since 1978 -- and the first female representative of the district.
Paterson is scheduled to formally announce his pick Friday

Hope so. Seat by seat ....
How did she manage to win in ‘06 and ‘08? Play to the right of a Republican? That’s how Dems get elected in VA.
You’re making me feel better.
I thought that Carolyn Maloney (whose district is in Manhattan) wants the Senate appointment and not Carolyn McCarthy (whose district is on Long Island and whose husband was murdered).
I see from the Slimes that it is now McCarthy who is talking about the Senate seat. The other week they were promoting Maloney.
If Gillibrand is a Second Amendment supporter, that would be almost too good to be true (I know little about NY politics but I hope you are right). We can survive all kinds of economic mismanagement (which we will have plenty of). When socialist policies fail as they must, people will eventually turn to alternatives. But when politicians restrict the fundamental rights of citizens, things go from bad to very dangerous.
Are you sure she is a Second Amendment supporter and not a typical Democrat who supports the right of a hunter to own one .22 caliber single-shot rifle, as long as it is stored in a police station and can only be checked out for an hour once a year? I am not challenging what you said, I just cannot believe any one other than a rabid anti-gunner would be allowed to replace Clinton.
"...a 100 percent rating from the NRA..."
so I guess Kirsten Gillibrand is the real deal on the second amendment.
Everyone wants to have their own Sarah Palin now
Better than Coumo, in any event.
A much better person for the seat than Caroline. She’s a Blue Dog Democrat. Pro-second Amendment, Pro-border control, Pro-tax cuts, Pro-military.
Of course, Peter King would have been my choice, too, but I am happy enough when I think of what we ALMOST got!
Well, at least this keeps that creep Cuomo out as well as Kennedy, and if she is pro-2nd Amendment, then that is an added plus.
there is a stench coming off of the Cuomo family that even the Dhimmicrats hate.
Peter King is an anti gun Republican and the pr!ck has sponsored Irish terrorism in the past. Why the Hell would you want him...
She is better than him 'cept for that damned D attached to her name.
I would vote for a consevative D over a Liberal R anyday.
The Gov’s choice is official. Carolyn Maloney’s campaign manager was on the Friends Pundit Pit this morning all excited that change has come because the Kennedys and Clintons can’t lie their way into the WH anymore. Rev. Al cheered. This gal and Rev. Al are thrilled because Paterson is reaching across the aisle like their hero in choosing a Blue Dog making her tougher to beat. The good news is that it will be easy to win back that House seat.
I’m screaming at the TV...Geraldo is practically crying to the Friends. He said he is heartbroken that Princess Caroline is not going to be part of the most exclusive club...especially since Uncle Ted is so sick. Steve asked just what qualified her??? Oh, she’s so honest and she raised money for charity. He’s going on and on and on. “Caroline was doing it for history, her mom, her dad, the family.”
I know what's on her CV, but I'd like to know just what the heck the "Labor Initiative" was/is.
Libs are upset about her “little experience”...that hasn’t seemed to bother them before.
