Meet the dim answer to Gov. Palin. Actually I think that if she maintains her pro-2nd Amend stance and tacks to the center on other issues, she could be quite formidable.

I think you're on to something here, Lou. I've been thinking about this appointment over the past two days. At first, I was pleasantly surprised since Gillibrand is a "blue dog" Democrat, and appears to be the best possible choice (as far as these things go in New York) that could have come out of this scenario.

HOWEVER, Schmucky Schumer's curious behavior throughout all of this made me stop and think. He has been pushing for Gillibrand from the start, and I think he revealed his hand when he slapped down Carolyn McCarthy (McCarthy knocks Gillibrand as choice for Senate (Schumer to McCarthy: stifle yourself)).

Based upon Schumcky's position as chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, with primary responsibility for raising funds and recruiting Democrat candidates, I strongly suspect that Gillibrand's selection to replace Hillary is a cunning strategic move by Schumer and the Rats to not only keep that seat in the 2010 election (since they obviously think Gillibrand is strong enough to hold on to it, unlike Caroline Kennedy), but also position her as a potential VP candidate in 2012, in place of Biden.

If Obama shucks Biden aside in 2012 (and I have no reason to doubt that he will), then by bringing the somewhat Conservative, 2nd Amendment supporting Gillibrand onboard might counteract any threat that Governor Palin might present to Obama should she choose to run that year. And then, in 2016, Gillibrand would be positioned to succeed Obama, based upon her apparent "blue dog" status, but true proclivity for liberalism on most everything else.

Schmucky and the Rats are thinking long term right now, and if you stop and consider their ultimate goals, then this strategy makes perfect sense in the grand scheme of things.

The bottom line is that the Rat leadership probably sees Gillibrand as a potential counterbalance to Palin, even though she cannot match the governor in terms of sheer X-Factor charisma or executive experience.

Just my humble analysis, after two days of thinking on it.

“After seeing Gillibrand on Fox, I’ll amend my statement to “She bears traces of having recently been a babe.””

Yet more evidence that SP is a superior human being, how long did that Trig baby fat stay on her? Ten hours? ;)

Let's see how long Gillibrand's position on the 2nd amendment remains as it does now. During yesterday's press conference, Chuckie Schumer, with Kirsten standing right next to him, said, "her views (on guns) will evolve to reflect the whole state". I was surprised that Schumer would be so pompous as to say something like that practically to her face, but then again, I'm not. With Chuckie pulling the strings, Gillibrand will be a typical NY lib in no time.

I bashed the freepers who drank the "Joe Lieberman is one of us and should join the GOP" kool-aid

Yes that was silly. A down the line leftist aside from foreign policy. Pro-partial birth abortion exc. He'd have been the worst RINO since the guy he beat with conservative support Lowell Weicker who is even more liberal than Lieberman. A when it mattered in 51-49 Senate he stood with his rat buddies. I would have voted for the nobody Republican with the gambling problem in 2006 instead of part 2 of the democrat primary.

Some were convinced the rats would shut him out and he'd have no other recourse but I never thought for a second he would join the GOP. I fully excpet now if he runs again he'll have the dem nomination and be on the Obama train. It says a lot about McStain that Joe was cool with him as President.

I suggesting freepers cross over and vote for Gillibrand in the RAT primary over McCarthy,

You might face a counter effort supporting McCarthy cause "King will thwamp her!". I'm not so sure, it is New York. She'd be worse than Hillary. ACU gives McCarthy a higher score than Hillary but she's a rabid moonbat and an incompetent idiot to boot.

is taken from a single year she was there that the ACU rated her - 2007

Sure one year doesn't give a good picture. The DUmmies sure don't care she got an 8!

However, I would enjoy watching King go down to defeat, it's long overdue.

I'd enjoy seeing someone better take his house seat if that's at all possible.

sleeper cell

Well we see these do exist. Witness Speaker Kent Williams in Tennessee. Straight up sleeper cell agent. The rats hadn't even been running opponents against him.

A talking head has speculated that fill-in Governor Patterson knows he can’t be re-elected in two years. Gillibrand will face re-election then too. Patterson thinks he has a better shot against her than against, say, Cuomo.

Plus she is upstate - the horror of it all! This is the first time I can remember when upstate was represented. Of course, it would have been better if he had chosen someone from WESTERN NY - we are the ones with the depressed economy being killed by high taxes that all go to NYC. No wonder all the smart businesses are getting out.

I had heard this somewhere (talk radio possibly?) and don’t doubt it a bit. Schmuck Schemer is a real snake. She would have been swept out at the mid-terms in that district anyway, but she’s too valuable to the RAT machine with that phoney one issue appeal to a lot of folk on the right even though she’s a reliable lib on almost every other issue.
