It wouldn’t matter if Paterson appointed a fire hydrant to take that seat. As long as it’s a Democratic fire hydrant, there is no way any Republican would unseat it in 2010, or 2012, or 2014, or 20.... You get the picture. New York is lost for good, and so is Illinois; and so are a good dozen other states.
