Obama blows off Medal of Honor recipients

According to TSO who was at the “Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball”, this newly sworn-in President for the first time in 56 years blew off the ball (that’s 14 Inaugurations).

Some background on the ball:

"The American Legion sponsors the ball, which recognizes recipients of Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award. It started in 1953 for President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s first inauguration.

Event co-sponsors include 13 other veterans service organizations, among them the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Paralyzed Veterans of America."

So where was our new President instead of honoring Medal of Honor recipients who by some miracle are still alive? According to Huffington Post, this was his schedule for Inaugural celebrations:

"Later that day, the Presidential Inaugural Committee will host 10 official inaugural balls:

_ Neighborhood Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.

_ Obama Home States (Illinois and Hawaii) Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.

_ Biden Home States (Pennsylvania and Delaware) Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.

_ Midwest Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.

_ Mid-Atlantic Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.

_ Western Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.

_ Commander in Chief’s Ball at the National Building Museum.

_ Southern Inaugural Ball at the National Guard Armory.

_ Eastern Inaugural Ball at Union Station.

_ Youth Inaugural Ball at the Washington Hilton.

Unofficial balls include:

_ Congressional Black Caucus Inaugural Ball at the Capitol Hilton.

_ Creative Coalition Inaugural Ball at the Harman Center for the Arts.

_ Recording Industry Association of America’s ball for Feeding America.

_ BET’s Inaugural Ball at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

_ Africa on the Potomac inaugural celebration at Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va.

_ American Music Inaugural Ball at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

_ Inaugural Purple Ball at the Fairmont Hotel.

_ Human Rights Campaign’s Equality Ball at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel.

_ Inaugural Peace Ball at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.

_ Impact Film Fund ball."

Mr. Wolf from Blackfive sends along this link to which Inaugural Balls Obama actually attended last night.

I have read through the first page of kittykat’s posts based on your comment. I see no evidence of trolling whatsoever - in fact, kittykat seems very well informed on some subjects. Politically Kittykat comes across as a political realist rather than an idealist that worries about what ‘should’ be when it in fact isn’t. Maybe Kittykat does or does not have conservative political views, I don’t know and I don’t care, as their posts are polite, often informative, and generally related to factual information at a higher % than many posters posts here.

Independent thinking and posting is not trolling. You could probably draw the same conclusion from my posts that you did from Kittykat77 if you wanted to, in that my political views are usually not directly expressed, rather I talk about reality (government, graft, power, geopolitics).

” Maybe Kittykat does or does not have conservative political views, I don’t know and I don’t care,”

Reading her posts should have answered that for you.

Now I understand just what the hell that whole staged wreath-placing event at Arlington two days earlier was really all about. Political cover.

My spidey senses were correct. Something was up.

He already knew he wasn't going to go to the Heroes Ball and any attempts to suggest he is anti-military can easily be refuted by his disciples by pointing out that he placed a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown a couple of days earlier.

The Reserve Officers Association hosted a breakfast Jan. 20, and the American Legion hosted a “Salute to Heroes” reception, banquet and ball that evening at the Capital Hilton. Cheney and Bush, accompanied by their wives, Lynne Cheney and Laura Bush, stopped by to again salute the vets prior to visiting inaugural balls throughout the capital.

“By tradition,” Cheney told the heroes, “this is always the first event the president and vice president visit before we begin the round of inaugural balls, and that’s for a very good reason.”

It’s “because of the enormous obligation and debt that we have to all of you who served in the U.S. military, veterans as well as the Medal of Honor recipients who are here tonight. On behalf of Lynne and myself, let me thank you for what you’ve done for all of us.”

Bush echoed Cheney’s support for the tradition. “It’s right that it be that way,” the president said. “It makes good sense to start here.

“The inaugural balls are a reflection of the wonderful freedoms we have in America — the free transfer of power that took place today,” he noted. “This is a free land, however, it would not have been free necessarily without the sacrifice of the men and women who have worn our uniform.”

Change you can believe and make excuses for. These guy spilled their blood so that Obama could have chauffeured limousines, helicopters, and two 747 at his disposal. If Obama did snub those who sacrificed the second most (Those who died along side them the most) then what kind of CIC is he anyways?

"I wonder why the organizers don’t combine the Salute to Heroes ball with the Commander-in-Chief ball.

Don't you get it? OBAMA is the Commander-in-Chief. It's about HIM. Why would he bother with heroes, the Messiah is all the hero we need.

Why are you being an obama apologist? Six of the 10 balls were in the same building! Plus being president means he can be driven anywhere in DC in only minutes. There was more than enough time for obama, if presidents made it 14 times in the past. He just purposely chose not to go.

The first president in 56 years to miss this ball and you think it’s a non-issue?

After the “official” balls were over, Obama did take time out of his very busy day for those who are important to him, namely: OPRAH:

Obamas throw “late night” gathering after balls in the White House. Oprah, Mayor Daley, among those present

How DARE anyone do anything but encourage knee-jerk reactions!? The only true FReeper is one who makes us look like we post blindly and don't think!

Which has nothing to do with what I posted.

I found no fault with this single post on this thread but when I read her entire posting history I saw a clear pattern of someone that is visiting a forum that they disagree with and that wants to influence it while remaining under the radar.
