January 18, 2009, 7:27 pm Dinner With Rice By Sheryl Gay Stolberg On the next to last night of his presidency, President Bush made a rare foray out for dinner Sunday not to a restaurant, but to the Watergate apartment of the woman he recently described as like my sister, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Mr. Bush, who spent the weekend at Camp David but returned Sunday afternoon, left the White House at 6:23 pm. All seemed quiet at the grand white mansion. The presidential pooch, Barney, could be seen standing outside the South Portico, looking well-fed, as the presidents motorcade pulled out.
At 8:30 pm, Mr. Bush left the Watergate for another unannounced stopa party at the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park in Maryland, hosted by the White House chief of staff, Joshua B. Bolten, and his predecessor, Andrew H. Card Jr., for about 600 current and former White House staffers.

Condi, better qualified and more experienced than obozo.
I would be glad to lead the stoning of this writer. No doubt that is a mideastern tradition favored by the NYT.
I think it should read: Condi dines with President Bush....
Wow. Amazing how few bush haters are in the comments section! In a NYT blog no less!
If Obama had been there, the title could have read, “Bush Dines with Chicken and Rice.”
LOL!
I see BDS fading as Obama-skepticism rises.
I tend to think Obama-skepticism will be turned inward.
Koolaid drinkers will just start to transfer their disappointment with Zero to other people and places.
BDS will play a role in the 2012 election more even than it did in 2008, I predict!
You may well be right, there.
One thing for sure, I’m hearing of more and more people who voted for Obama for the novelty value or to “do the right thing” who are just now figuring out this President job thing is kind of difficult and technical and speaking real good about “change” and “hope” really doesn’t amount to being qualified for the gig.
I know a voter from Iowa who didn’t have any idea about policies or even the “hope and change” mantra and voted for Obama on a whim.
She immediately turned against him soon after his acceptance speech was broadcast in the middle of and pre-empted her soap operas.
I’m not kidding. Fear for the country indeed.
Bush and Rice will be good friends forever. You can tell they both like each other a lot.
Did Bush have a little “brown sugar” with his Rice?
In Panama, there is nothing more delicious than black beans and rice.
a garlic clove (or more)
onions
carrots
cellery
black beans
salt for taste
spred this over one’s favorite rice recipe.
I’ve seen Times writers go to great lengths, but complaining about the President’s dog being well-fed? Major stretch. Will be seeing them writing approvingly about Obama’s emaciated dog because it shows the dog is sacrificing along with all of us?
Probably intended to get the rumor mills going at the Globe and National Enquirer. Funny how the NYT tabloid reported it first.
In a year or so the only place you will find the NYT is in the grocery store checkout line.
