Speaking as a MA resident, I am always pleasantly surprised by stories such as this one -- it's easy for me to forget that much of the rest of the country still retains its sanity.

Here is MA, the entire concept of self-defense has gone out the window. If I am threatened, I am allowed to give in or to run away. For me to kill my attacker would be to almost certainly guarantee jail time for moi.

If things become this way, then as often as possible those defending their lives with deadly force simply won't contact the police afterwards. When faced with defending ones life in opposition to the law, it's going to become less difficult to simply shoot, shovel and shut up....when possible.
