Despite Restrictions, City Still will be Packed (Gazillions?)
The Examiner ^ | 1/9/09 | Leah Fabel

Near-impossible car access to the District on Inauguration Day could limit crowd size and leave many stranded on the region’s roadways, but within the city packed conditions likely will remain.

---snip---

“I don’t know where you’ll put a million people,” said McPhail, who has analyzed dozens of D.C. crowds.

Wait a minute...you mean a MILLION people won't fit on The Mall? But...But...Calypso Louis said he had a million people...

Sounds like more "lowering the expectations" info. Curiouser and curiouser.

My question:
Will the O part the Potomac, or will he walk on the water, or will he descend in a cloud surrounded by angelic beings?

Are you talking about the couple thousand man march?

We can only hope wind chill is below 0 and there’s a foot of snow on the ground in DC on Jan. 20.

Most people wouldn't walk across the street to see him. I most certainly wouldn't.

You have to wonder if some terrorist group would see this as an opportunity to get a large number of people in one place.

I think he should prove himself by leaping from the top of the Washington Monument.

This would allow Virginians to simply walk across the Potomac like we did in '85.

This is why the restrictions...from what I can tell this will be the biggest inauguration in history. I don’t like Obama and did not vote for him, but a black man taking the oath of office is certainly a historical event.

The new pres is the terrorists best friend. Can’t imagine anyone of them wishing to cause harm.

NY manages new year’s eve with no problems, including the one immediately following 9/11.

Evidently ruling by imagined threat is how this bum is going to proceed.

There will be plenty there, including Rick Warren of CA. What they will have in common is that they will be either cheering or applauding the confiscation of American liberty, but they will be too ingnorant to understand.

You have to wonder if some terrorist group would see this as an opportunity to get a large number of people in one place. This idea will be used for every increase in government control of our daily lives while Obama is in office. For all the screaming that the dems did when the Bush Administration tried to get better intel on terrorists, they will accept every new restriction on American citizens as "necessary".

In 1985, as I recall, most of the ceremonies had to be held indoors, including the theft of an IN congressional seat.

This is a key point that we can use when talking to Obama supporters. Jonah Goldberg's book "Liberal Fascism" is a textbook of how other populations became converted to socialist states.

Convincing people that a situation was dire and drastic measures were necessary was a key step in the conversion.

But that was Reagan and worth risking your life for. I don’t see the same kind of ruggedness in those who support 0.

You should have been in Ohio when O came or Wisconsin, people drove through a blizzard to be there. You should have seen the get out the vote drive for Obama-you can not believe how organized and determined these people were-every weekend and in the last two weeks or so everyday, if you told them no, they crossed you off the list and paid a visit to your neighbors who apparently given Ohio’s voting told them yes-sigh...these people are true believers.

Um, there WILL be a LOT of folks there.
If there are not, it will be because of security concerns and people not being allowed near the inauguration.

There are many, many folks here in Gaa. chartering busses and going. Sadly, many of these folks are probably spending their life’s savings thinking they will actually SEE Obama in person and possibly shake his hand. THey actually think they are going to get a hotel room in DC!
I predict lots of scamming, ticket scalping, traffic gridlock, and civil unrest!

If they actually think there will be someplace to park that bus, they are really going to be disappointed. Metro has only received 35 charter bus parking reservations. And if they are spending so much of what little money they have without doing any actual logistical planning...well the poor in this country are poor for a reason.

I have no doubt this will be the largest gathering of stupid people in the nation's history. It will be entertaining.
