Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Tuesday that President-elect Barack Obama apologized to her for not notifying her ahead of time that Leon Panetta was his pick for CIA director.

His name leaked to the press before Obama informed Feinstein, a California Democrat and incoming Senate Intelligence Committee chairman, who will oversee Panetta's nomination hearing.

"I have been contacted by both President-elect Obama and Vice President-elect Biden, and they have explained to me the reasons why they believe Leon Panetta is the best candidate for CIA Director," she said.

Feinstein complained Monday she had not been told about Panetta and expressed doubts he has the necessary experience.

There was no immediate comment from the Obama team, which has made no formal announcement of the CIA pick.

However, Vice President-elect Joe Biden told reporters at the Capitol that the Obama team made a "mistake" in not consulting with top Senate officials before deciding on Panetta.

Now there’s a term I expect to hear a lot under this new administration!

I’m not sure that Bush, or any other Republican president, would have ‘back-doored’ a committee chair, regardless of party, on an appointment of this magnitude. Di-Fi is used to being treated with a certain level of decorum. She can’t understand why her own president would be so rude. Obama better have a steep learning curve or get used to being schooled by his parties senators.

Feinstein was ticked off that “she had not been consulted” as advised in previous news articles about this.

We are now to believe that she is pacified with the lie about the news leak?

She still wasn’t “consulted”.

The Dems are dancin’ the dance again. It’s called “Lie Dancing”.

Get ready for a long line of 'apologies' from this administration (um, I mean, 'regime').

I understand that Hugo Chavez, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Vladimir Putin, Osama Bin Laden, Daniel Ortega and Fidel Castro are all working their contacts in the DNC and the State Department to get to the top of Obama's "I apologize for America" list...

what strikes me is what is the explanation for why they chose pinafore in the first place. i mean did they actually tell the stupid woman that they intend to gut our intel agencies and make it easier for the enemy to bomb the shit outta our country? did they really tell her this truth?

He should apologize for the pick, not for not telling her in advance.
