The AP is reporting that Sen. Dianne Feinstein, chair of the Senate Rules Committee, says the Senate should seat former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris.
Feinstein said late today that, while Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is tainted by corruption charges, he still has the right to appoint someone to President-elect Barack Obama's former seat.
The Rules Committee which she chairs decides whether Burris is qualified to serve.
Feinstein said that blocking Burris would have ramifications for other governors' appointments.

DiFi is bucking her own...will wonders never cease! First she speaks out against Panetta and now says they should seat Burris. Betcha they’re not too happy with her over on DU.
I agree with Sen. Feinstein. Except with the word, “give.” As Gov. Blagojevich is still the governor of the state, his selection is the legitimate senator. It doesn’t matter who likes it, we are supposed to go by the rule of law in this country.
WhineSwine is turning out to be a real b!tch to the incoming administration!
Give Burris the seat? Give Feinstein the finger.
Blago hasn’t been convicted or even indicted yet. How can Reid deny his right as a governor?
I agree with you but I somehow feel like it’s bad to say it for some reason. It appears that if we go by the law then Burris is the senator. Perhaps the law should be amended to prohibit elected officials under indictment from excercising their authority. I dunno. It seems to be legal now.
I’m really more concerned with Smalley stealing his seat then Burris who appears to be have been duly appointed to his.
She’s right.
I called my Rat Senator today and chastised him for the spectacle of turning away Burris. I told his staffer that it looked pretty bad turning away a legal appointee of a legal governor of a state. I also said that Mr. Reid has no authority over a Governor’s actions, nor does the Secretary of State of Illinois have any authority over a Governor’s appointment.
And lastly, I played the race card: that the spectacle of a bunch of white Senators turning away the only black Senator didn’t look good at all.
If the GOP were intelligent ( OK everyone stop howling with laughter), they would get behind Burris and gain some brownie points with the black community.
I would encourage everyone to call their Senators tomorrow and argue Burris’s case—it would ehlp make Dinghy Reid look like the miserable small minded corrupt racist failure that he really is.
Burris has almost an ironclad right to the seat; he has been appointed by the Governor, as per Illinois law, so what’s your problem with it?
“Give Burris the seat? Give Feinstein the finger.”
We can’t have both? :(
Note to self...order more popcorn....
Why ? Watching the Dems hurt themselves is so much fun.
Blago has not been indicted yet, and won’t be before April 7th.
Blago may yet rat out the Chicago Outfit, because they hung him out to dry.
I often wonder what the transcript of Dingy Harry’s phone call to Blag reads like. Harry may be gone before Blago!!!
She was the first 'Rat that admitted to being notified of the surveillance program. Reid and the other Dem vermin tried saying that they were unaware of the wire tapping until DiFi admitted that they were briefed several for months before the NYT broke the story. THAT was a shock to me.
Not only is there a run on popcorn, I hear that long, sharp knives are selling well in blue states these days. ;)
Feinstein is right on Leon Panetta and Roland Burris.
