Bush's Pro-Democracy Strategy Is Pro-Terrorism
Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights ^ | December 29, 2008 | Elan Journo

Washington, D.C.--The acts of war by Hamas against Israel are precisely what people should expect from Bush’s so-called democracy strategy in the Middle East.

The administration campaigned for elections in the strongholds of various Islamist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, groups that it should have worked to destroy. In the Palestinian territories, Bush insisted that Hamas be allowed to participate in the 2006 elections--and the jihadist group won a landslide. Thanks to that political victory, Hamas gained an unearned legitimacy for its vicious war to exterminate Israelis and Westerners. Winning power with the aid of their enemy confirmed for these Islamists that the West will abet its own destroyers.

America’s self-defense entails crushing Islamic totalitarianism--not ushering its jihadists into political office and galvanizing them to redouble their war against us.

Ignored our advice?? Heck, they CREATED the Muslim Brotherhood!

It's clearly an Egyptian government, but opposed to the current government, which we consider an ally. Egypts elections are a joke, however we did press Egypt to allow greater participation by the Muslim Brotherhood in the election of a couple years ago. I believe they only participate by proxy now. A foolish move, the last thing we need is an officailly sanctioned terrorist presence in the Egyptian government. As I noted, it was equally foolish to force Israel (and Abbas) to allow Hamas to participate in the elections. To our great surprise Hamas, and "democracy", won. Equally foolish to have allowed al Sadr to have fielded a slate in Iraq while still armed, and not to have applied pressure against Hizbollah participation in Lebanon. Armed groups have no place in the political process, and GWB's belief that somehow the local populace will reject them was and is naive.
