Late on Christmas Eve, one last wish was sent, by e-mail: Please let NASA Administrator Michael Griffin keep his job. It was from his wife.
Rebecca Griffin, who works in marketing, sent her message with the subject line "Campaign for Mike" to friends and family. It asked them to sign an online petition to President-elect Barack Obama "to consider keeping Mike Griffin on as NASA Administrator."
She wrote, "Yes, once again I am embarrassing my husband by reaching out to our friends and 'imposing' on them.... And if this is inappropriate, I'm sorry."

Griffin ought to be sent packing and take his heinous Ares program with him. It’s the definition of a boondoggle.
space ping
What did it do? or not do? or was supposed to do? or will do?............
DIRECT to the Moon and Mars.
I thought the Space Elevator was gonna solve our lift-off problems?..........
Griffin has done fine. I suppose. No news is good news, they say. He might find a good position at an engineering school.
I remember reading that Mr. Griffin ordered NASA not to cooperate with Hussein’s transition team. In most other forms of employment, not being willing to work with the new boss is one of the quickest ways to get fired. Regardless of politics, I see no reason why Hussein should retain Mr. Griffin.
Bow down and kiss the Dear Leader’s ring and he might consider.
Ares I was to serve as a manned transport to orbit for ISS and eventually support manned lunar missions. Ares V was to be the heavy lift rocket to heft large unmanned payloads for manned lunar missions, etc. They both used different shuttle derived components.
The DIRECT concept skips the Ares I and goes straight to various configurations similar to the Ares V, but man rated.
Both will be expensive and not much more reliable than the shuttle (if even that.)
Basically it comes down to the old NASA pissing contest between JSC and MSFC for who will control the next big program.
My guess is that the Obama crew will put a pox on both houses and divert NASA pork to NASA centers in bluer states like Goddard in MD, Ames and JSC in CA and Glenn in OH.
This is like Robert’s Mom going to the FBI to plead his case for him.
Nonsense, NASA and the military are the 2 things government work actually ends with results.
I hate luddite ‘conservatives’ that can’t stand space and research investment. Reagan sure knew better.
Oh really? And how shall we fly astronauts after the retirement of the shuttle? Or is that just a "waste of money" ? Who needs NASA, right? (and their 15 billion dollar budget! Oh my!)
Considering we will be spending 1.8 trillion dollars to bail out various financial idiots and losers , Id say you and your ilk are the ones with screwed up priorities..
What Obama will do is cancel Aires and replace it with NOTHING. So he can have more money for his remaking of the entire economy. And we’re talking a few billion versus 17 billion to bail out the money losing auto industry for a few months. Disgusting..
More likely divert it to his social spending instead. NASA just doesent deliver him enough votes, and Md. and Cal. is in his pocket regardless . (Ames is small beans..)
You obviously don’t know my views very well. Ares as presented by M. Griffin is a boondoggle that will end up in the annals of space history before it gets off the ground. Griffin just wants a BFR (Big F****** Rocket) and has no plan for its utilization. I’m as big a believer in manned spaceflight as you’ll find on FR, but we need to have sound engineering solutions.
People here yell about the boondoggle shuttle. Now this is a boondoggle. What do you suggest oh mighty one?
Because Barak is an ignorant fool who has never done so much a slop together a wopper. Barak indeed deciding where we go!!!!
Please, we are waiting for your solutions.
