Reid already saying, "NO."

This is a Fire Sale. The cost of the Senate seat seems to have dropped to $20,000 already paid.

News conference in 20 minutes.

Depending on the thinking of the local voters, that could backfire on the Senate and cause this person to be elected to that office. LOL...

Actually, that may be the plan...

BAW: Can you modify this post to put it in Breaking News?

This is going to get good.

Wow, can he really do that? This is heating up to be quite the fight. Until Blago is impeached, he has the authority, right?

I read elsewhere that Reid and the Senate can’t refuse to seat the appointee. They can only expel on a 2/3 vote. If true, this will be even more fun...

Does this now qualify for a “that’s racist” photo and caption?

Here's the money quote (no pun intended): Burris has given more than $20,000 to Blagojevich's campaign fund on his own and through his consulting and law firms, state campaign finance records show. Burris' consulting company received about $290,000 in state contracts with the Illinois Department of Transportation a few years ago, according to state comptroller records.

Give 20 grand, get 290 grand.

What a system we got here in the Peoples Republik of IL.

Reid’s gone a bridge too far on this one, especially if Obama should happen to express support for Burris.

Can you say internecine warfare? Knew you could.

So how does the Senators get a say? You know it’s not like it’s a club of insiders, it is supposed to be an election with State rules on how to handle other things that comes up.

Reid’s 30% approval in Nevada needs some tough guy talk to help pump up.

Somebody is paying for Blago’s VERY expensive mob lawyer. Blago isn’t. He stiffed his last one.

You got to hand it to BLAGO, appointing a BLACK will make it VERY TOUGH for the Dims to say NO.

This is ONE time the GOP should stay clear of any involvement and let Reid and Co. navigate these waters alone!

If he is not seated then the GOP can point out the rejection to BLACKS and if he is seated they can point to the seat as being illegitimate.

What is the legality on this issue? Does Reid have the authority to refuse to seat the nominee?

Burris should say he will reject this appointment only if the selectee of New York state rejects her/his Senate appointment from Paterson as well.

I guess since the Giants suspended him for shooting himself in the leg, he must need a job. All in all, he is a better choice than Al Franken! ;0)

Frankly, I don't see the problem with Blago appointing this guy. Given the cast of characters currently in the Senate, Caroline Kennedy is as qualified as they are.

Good thing there's plenty of popcorn in my pantry.

As to Obama's cabinet picks, only Holder and Richardson are worth contesting. IMO, at 58-42 or 59-41, it's going to be difficult to get the necessary votes for a filibuster, so use it judiciously.

I think the Blue Dogs will do plenty of barking if San Fran Nan and Searchlight Harry try to veer hard left. The Pubbies need to fight their battles with an eye towards 2010.

Congressmen Bobby Rush talking now about how horrible it would be for a Senator not to want to seat Burris.
