The bottom line to the whole COLB and citizenship is that, while Obama won the battle, the argument won the war. That is, the SCOTUS has officially reviewed the constitutional problem. They, discreetly, will let both political parties know that in future, they had *damn* well better vet their candidates, because if they try this stunt again, the SCOTUS will shoot them down without hesitation, and long before the end of primary season.
Otherwise, Obama seems to be on several tight leashes. His cabinet picks are not horrific, and are mostly Clinton gang, the economy itself is going to shoot down a bunch of his big spending ideas. And the worse things get, the better for the Republicans in two years.
Bill Clinton pretty much trod water until the Republicans took over congress, and Obama will probably do the same, only getting traction by taking credit for the Republicans ideas.
“The bottom line to the whole COLB and citizenship is that, while Obama won the battle, the argument won the war”
Obama lost the argument, at least among rational people who follow the available evidence. If he wins the “battle” or “war” it will be because our institutions are too weak or cynical to confront him. But as Yogi Berra wisely noted, “It ain’t over till it’s over”.
“That is, the SCOTUS has officially reviewed the constitutional problem. There is no evidence I am aware of to support your personal speculations. So far as I know SCOTUS doesn’t issue discreet communications to political parties, just public rulings. And so far what they have done is fail to issue injunctions or grant certiorari. The next event is Congress counting the electoral votes on January 8th. Will one Congessman and one Senator rise to object, and force a roll call vote? We will soon know the answer to that question.
You must have not gotten the memo.
No case concerning COLB has been dismissed by USSC. Only the stays have been dismissed.
In FACT SCOTUS will sit in conference on Jan 6th and twice on Jan. 16th 2009 concerning the three cases presented so far.
