What if our country were to be taken over by a foreign power?

You’ll note that the Bible says to do this. When the Bible tells those, who are God’s own, to do certain things, it doesn’t mean that many like the idea or relish the idea or wish something like that happens (i.e., being taken over). No..., it means that’s what God tells us, as God’s own, to do these things — and thus, those are commands to God’s people.
Now, of course, this doesn’t apply to those who have refused God in their lives, by way of the salvation of Jesus Christ that He offers to all. Such a one that has refused God’s offer of salvation is not bound to do what God says is the righteous thing to do — so that person can continue doing the evil that he wishes. That person will be judged on that basis, at the Great White Throne judgement, of the unsaved (Rev. 20), and cast into the lake of fire for eternal torment.
In addition to doing what God tells His own righteous people to do (but not to the unrighteous), you’ll also notice the “context” in which God gave this command. Israel was ruled by a “foreign power” at the time. And — in spite of that — God gave that command to His righteous people.
Also, notice that Jesus had the power to overthrow the foreign powers, if He wished to do so. But, Jesus did not do that. Jesus never said that overthrowing that foreign power that controlled Israel at the time of Jesus was even a *minor* issue in His thought. It simply *was not the time* for that to be done. And Jesus, along with all the Christians of that time, were given a *different task* than overthrowing a foreign power. In fact, Jesus said His was not a Kingdom that was of this earth, at that time, so as to have His followers take up arms and overthrow the foreign power. And yet, in spite of that, they were still supposed to pray for their leaders, which would include the leaders of the foreign powers that controlled them.
There will come a time when Jesus *does* overthrow the “foreign powers” — and one of those foreign powers that Jesus will overthrow, will be the United States. And Jesus will *take control* over the United States and dispense with the laws that it has. A “new world order” will be established by Jesus, at that time, and He will rule the U.S. and the other nations — with a rod of iron (as the Bible says).
I wonder how a lot of people here will react to our laws being overturned and thrown out and Jesus ruling as an *absolute King* over all things that go on in these United States? I would imagine that many would be opposed to that... LOL...
In addition to that, God has given us the example that when a foreign power comes to take over a country (such as Israel) that it can be (and is, many times) directly as a *result* of God’s judgement upon that nations. It’s apparent that God has pronounced judgement upon this nation of the United States, by installing Obama in power as the next President of the United States. The Bible does say that the people will be *given over* to their evil ways, if they persist in ignoring God. God will “give them” exactly the evil that they deserve. It appears that this has happened because of the evil ways of our country (corporately speaking, in spite of some individuals who wouldn’t be in that category). But, that’s the way it was, also, with Israel.
And at the times when Israel was “judged” and a foreign power defeated Israel, Israel was told by direct revelation from God, through His chosen prophets, announcing to the nation that they should *not resist* the “judgement of God” or else it would go *even worse* for them.
Thus, there are plenty of examples in the Bible of how God “thinks” — which is completely different than the way some people think here on this board...

The *only way out* of this “judgement of God” upon this nation, which is happening now, is for the nation to *repent* of its sins (and we’re speaking corporately, here, acting as a “nation”, not just a few individuals here and there...) — is for prayer and repentance. Short of that, judgement will come and so will slavery come... (slavery to the evils of the sins that have been committed in this nation).
So, the solution is not political, it’s not judicial, it’s not legislative — it’s by prayer and repentance. And if those who think that this doesn’t matter (i.e., the prayer and repentance), they will find out when all their other ways fail. God (as the Bible says) is not mocked and He will not be thwarted...

The reference in 2 John is reasonable, but your Romans reference is specifically talking of ALL people, not just Christians, and even says to feed and give drink to these enemies of God. “Recompense to NO MAN evil for evil...Provide things honest in the sight of ALL MEN...live peaceably with ALL MEN...THEREFORE (what follows is still for ALL MEN).

Amen. I am teaching my children that it is okay not to respect someone who bought & intimidated and manipulated his way into office, especially as he is the most unqualified person to ever get elected.

Sometimes it is helpful to look at more than one translation of a passage to get a better idea of its meaning. I pretty much interpret for myself what I read in the Bible, though I sometimes seek guidance from others when I don’t quite understand something. I’m not saying I’m always right, and often I interpret what I read differently than many (or even the majority of) others, but I do my best.
