KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — A German military helicopter chased away pirates on Thursday who were trying to board an Egyptian ship off the coast of Somalia. One of the ship's crew was shot in the attack.
The bulk carrier with 31 crew was passing through the Gulf of Aden on its way to Asia when gun-toting pirates in a speedboat began pursuing it, said Noel Choong of the International Maritime Bureau's piracy reporting center.
A passing ship alerted the Kuala Lumpur-based bureau, which asked a multinational naval coalition force in the area to help, said Choong.

Reminds me a documentary about wild elephants. They routinely ravaged the fields of the farmers in this small province in India because they had learned the humans don’t shoot at you.

As two whimpish American Admirals have explained recently, apparently when you start killing pirates there is no end legal and diplomatic difficulties that arise. Bush apparently is happy to keep around bureaucrats in uniform who have no starch in their collars. It is just another sad day in a really sad failure of an administration.
This idiocy comes straight out of the Bush administration, who have been in charge for only about 8 years now.

Funny how no one is worried about the legal and diplomatic difficulties if the pirates kill someone. THEY'RE not worried about it.

There have to be exceptions to iron-clad rules if the rules aren't valid any more.
