The Sarah Palin backlash—or comeback—is underway. Misused by the McCain campaign, then dissed by anonymous McCainiacs as a haughty diva, those who think the senator and his staff are to blame are starting to speak out. And we're not talking about those who traveled with the Alaska governor who quickly took a shining to her and chafed when the McCain team botched her coming out on the campaign trail. Now I'm hearing from key Republicans on Capitol Hill and GOP pollsters who believe that the McCain campaign should have put her out to talk about energy and political independence—her two best issues—instead of making her the conservative attack dog.

McCains problem was he didn’t talking about earmarks and reaching across the aisle more.
There is a reason they call it “Kicking ass and taking names”. McCain didn't do it. He showed he was what he always has been; a go along to get along U.S. Senator.
He was the first one who might have been what Rush Limbaugh laughing calls “the Great Moderates of History”.

The big mistake was not letting her warm up her national public speaking voice before sympathetic and encouraging friends and fans on talk radio before turning her out to an unfriendly media already working overtime for Obama.
Zackley. Stir up the hornet’s nest and earn his “maverick” cred by going against the bailout. He would have suddenly become the REAL alternative to Barack and his establishment side-kick Biden.
It seems to be the liberal consensus that the only conservative in the thing was the wrong choice. What a surprise.

I may be one of the few people, other than people paid to do so, who watched every speech that Sarah gave from August 29, 2008 to November 3, 2008. Here are 10 things that McCain should have done or did do with Sarah: 1) Sarah should been front-and-centre in TV and radio ads during the last week or two of the campaign appealing to conservatives to come home based on the three-legged stool (20% of conservatives voted for Obama)2)Sarah should have done interviews with right-wing talk radio and Sean Hannity (TV) first before being thrown out to the wolf pack in the MSM-that’s like sending a football player out to play without going through training camp 3)I will always be grateful to McCain for picking Sarah but he should have NOT touted Alaska’s proximity to Russia as Sarah’s qualifications in foreign affairs; several weeks ago I proposed a ‘Brett Favre strategy’; it goes like this: Brett Favre, as a qualified QB still had to learn the NY Jet playbook and terminology to be able to understand how the Jets offense worked and familiarize himself with the players on the Jets to perform better. McCain should have said something like this:”I am proud to have selected Sarah Palin the Governor of Alaska as my running mate; Sarah, as Governor of Alaska, has distinguished herself if many areas of domestic policy including being fiscally responsible, running financial surpluses, recently rebating $1200 to each Alaskan resident, and being responsible for the biggest infrastructure project in America history—a $40B natural gas pipeline to be built from the north slope of Alaska down to the Lower 48; she also has an approval rating above 80%-unheard of for any American political leader; she is also well-read; as I understand it she can quote Plato and Aristotle as well as any scholar of Greek studies; in her executive role as governor and commander of Alaskan’s National Guard Sarah also has responsibility for our missile silos in America and has received an expanded briefing on national security that is not available to other governors who do not share her responsibility. Having said that Sarah has focused heretofore mainly on state issues as that was her purview. Going forward Sarah will now turn her attention to focusing to a much higher degree on national issues. With that in mind let me offer an analogy. Brett Favre, as you know, was the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. In signing with the NY Jets it was understood by the Jets organization that Brett had to be brought up to speed on the Jet’s playbook and familiarize himself with the Jets players in order to perform at his peak.With Sarah it will be treated no differently. Over the next month Sarah will be brought up to speed on national security issues and domestic issues by reading briefing books and consulting with experts in the various fields. Let me be clear: Sarah Palin is NOT a novice: she already has a clear and deep knowledge of what the goals of foreign and domestic policy should be and this will be shown in the coming weeks as I and Sarah go forward and speak to how these goals should be achieved; What will be occurring over the next month will be putting ‘meat on the bone’ And finally remember Sarah will be debating Joe Biden on October 2; at that time the American people will get to see for themselves how competent and skilled
Sarah is in American foreign and domestic policy.” This is what McCain should have said but of course never came close to saying 4)Sarah should have given more speeches on the equality of women and ‘the glass ceiling’ similar to the speech she gave at her unveiling at Dayton, in Henderson, Nevada and hinted at in Southern California when she quoted from Madeleine Albright about ‘women supporting other women’ 5)Mccain should have allowed Sarah to attack Obama harder, especially on Ayres, Dohrn, Khalidi and Odinga 6)While McCain was in Washington he should have brought Sarah with him to introduce her to members of Congress before she went to NYC to be briefed by various dignitaries including Kissinger 7)Sarah should have given her major ‘energy speech’ not on October 29 (Toledo) but on October 8 to give a chance for her comeptence on the issue to sink in with the electorate and for her to reinforce on the campaign trail what she had already said 8)McCain should have spoken first when they made joint appearances-so that Sarah could be the MAIN EVENT and could focus on energy, fiscal conservatism and Reagan conservatism. This would have meant that McCain would have had to put his ego is his back pocket, which as we know now he was not prepared to do 9) McCain should have had Mike Duncan, the head of the RNC, come out with a definitive statement that Sarah had no say in the purchase of her wardrobe (thus backing Sarah 100%) and that the RNC spent the money on her behalf and not her behest 10)Sarah should have been allowed to address the gaffes of Biden in a hard-hitting way to show why she was a far superior VP candidate than he was and also to subtly question Obama’s judgment of putting Biden on the ticket and reinforce the snubbing of Hillary. However, what do I know. I am only an ordinary person with a brain who possesses common sense, seeks the truth and strives for clarity.

techno, I have totally shared your exact thoughts since early October. I was naive enough to think (hope and pray, actually), that the campaign was “saving” her for October and that’s when they’d put her front and center (there was a lot of clammering for that anyway). Nada. All of your points seem so simple and SO OBVIOUS. Maybe you and I should’ve volunteered to run the campaign.
The zipped lips of Duncan and the RNC during wardrobe-gate was disgusting. Way to back your candidate, guys.
